We use well maintained four wheel drive Land Rover Land Cruiser vehicles staffed by experienced driver/guides who have intimate knowledge of the National Parks of Northern Tanzania. Our guides know where to find the wildlife, either through experience or through a network of communication with other guides. They can spot animals from great distances and do their best to bring you close for an unforgettable encounter with Africa's majestic animals. Arusha National Park, although a rather small park measuring 53 square miles (137 square km), is remarkable for its range of habitats. Located 16 miles northeast of Arusha, between Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, Arusha National Park features a miniature volcanic crater (Ngurduto Crater), a river (Jekukumia River), a highland rain forest, acacia woodlands and a string of crater lakes (Momella Lakes). The park is a home to Colobus monkeys, velvet monkeys, buffalo, hippos, elephants, and giraffe. A wonderful waterfall is abundant here as well. Arusha National Park offers many beautiful panoramic views, including spectacular views of both Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. Arusha National Park:

Lake Manyara National Park The park is located 75 miles (125 kms) west of Arusha between the cliff of Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara. The park is 205 square miles (330 square kms) and 70% of that is covered by Lake Manyara itself. The park contains a large variety of habitats - such as rift wall, acacia woodlands, and an area of open grasslands. The most famous spectacle in the park are the tree climbing lions, which are occasionally seen on the branches of acacia trees. Other animals are found in the area, this includes large herds of buffalo, elephants, giraffes, impalas, monkeys, baboons, hippos, as well as millions of pelicans and flamingos. A great variety of smaller animals can be observed in the course of a single day.

The meadows along the shores of the mildly alkaline Lake Eyasi are not only home to a wide variety of wildlife including leopard, hippo, monkeys, birds, flamingos, storks and pelicans, the area is also home to the Hadzabe bushmen, the last tribe of hunter-gatherers in East Africa. Some 200 to 400 Hadzabe Bushmen still live much as they have for tens of thousands of years. Their simple shelters are built from grass, branches and earth. During the rainy season they still live in caves. During your visit to Lake Eyasi, you may visit with the Hadzabe Bushmen to witness their primitive way of life, and even accompany them on a early morning hunt. Lake Eyasi

Tarangire National Park park covers approximately 2,600 square miles (6,700 square kms), and lies to the south of a large open grass plain in southern Masai land, 70 miles (115 kms) from Arusha. It is the sixth largest national park in Tanzania. Tarangire is commonly famous for its abundant birdlife. Visitors are frequently entertained by encounters with browsing elephants, which inhabit this park in the large herds. Other animals that can be seen include buffalo, giraffe, zebra, elands, warthogs, greter kudu, gernuks and impalas. Huge magnificent baobab trees, the Tarangire River, and volcanic mountain ranges add to the scenic splendor of this unique national park. Tarangire National Park

Ngorongoro Conservation Area Located in the Great Rift Valley, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a gigantic fracture of the earth crust. Within this beautiful and unique landscape lies alkaline soda lakes, a series of peaks and volcanoes, dense rain forests, vast plains, acheological sites and Masai villages. This protected area is the land of the semi- nomadic Maasai, who can be seen grazing their vast herds of cattle. Although the Tanzanian government has tried to encourage the Maasai to give up their customs and adapt to modern African life, the proud Maasai have resisted. During your visit, it is possible to visit nearby Maasai villages, called boma, to observe their traditional dance and to go inside their mud and dung huts.

Ngorongoro Crater Ngorongoro Conversation Area houses one of the world's greatest natural spectacles - the Ngorongoro Crater, home to almost 30,000 animals. It is impossible to give a fair description of the crater, for there is nothing with which to compare it. Once an active volcano, Ngorongoro Crater collapsed leaving a caldera 12 miles (20 kms) in diameter. With no breaks at all in its steep walls, this is the largest intact caldera in existence. The bottom of the crater is 165 square miles (265 square kms), dotted with watering holes, shelters an abundance of animals in an area naturally enclosed by the slopes of the volcano. The crater is famous for viewing black rhinos, for which there are very few left. Other animals that can be seen include elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, monkeys, and ever hungry predators including lions and hyenas.

Olduvai Gorge is known as the 'cradle of mankind'. Through the excavation of Dr. Louis Leakey and his wife Mary, the gorge has yielded numerous remains dating back almost two million years. The remains of the earliest human were found in this area which revolutionized theories of how man evolved. The historical findings of the famous skull, other fossils and stone artifacts have strengthened the belief that Africa is the birthplace of prehistoric man. There is a small museum here which displays some of the finds from this region. Olduvai Gorge lies between the great wildlife sanctuaries of the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park, and is a common rest stop during the bumpy ride between these parks Olduvai Gorge

Serengeti National Park, covering an immense 9,170 square miles (14,763 square kms), is Tanzania's largest national park and undoubtedly the best known wildlife sanctuary in the world. Over three million large game animals inhabit these rolling grasslands, known as the 'endless plains'. Here one can witness the unique migration of almost 1.5 million wildebeest undertake a circuit of 600 miles (1,000 kms) in search of new pastures, from the central plains to the permanent water holes at the the park corridors. About 35 species of plain animals can be observed including the 'big five' - elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards, buffalos - and large herds of wildebeest, gazelle and zebra. Serengeti National Park

Safari Accommodation: Our safari extensions utilize standard hotel lodges and permanent tented camps. The lodges are located in Marangu Village / Arusha and Karatu town. The permanent tented camps are located near Seronera, the center of the Serenget National Park, and just west of the Serengeti. Standard Hotel Lodges Our standard hotel lodges feature nice, clean rooms with twin beds and private bathrooms with hot showers. Linens are included as well as mosquito netting. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in either an indoor communal dining hall or (weather permitting) an outdoor garden/courtyard. Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge is perched on the rim of the incomparable Ngorongoro Crater. It is built mainly from natural stone and local wood and timber. The panoramic windows encompass a superb view of the 311 sq. km crater teeming with wildlife. It offers breathtaking view of the crater. It is 2,286 meters above sea level. 90 bedrooms in all, a lounge with panoramic windows and an observation deck.

Seronera Wildlife Lodge is a large tourist hotel and offers simple but comfortable rooms, friendly service, good food and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. The Seronera Wildlife Lodge may be the simplest and least visually appealing out of all the lodges in the Central Serengeti but its location at the heart of the Seronera River Valley is unbeatable. The Seronera River Valley, with its abundance of resident animals including all the big carnivores, is a must see no matter what time of year. The Seronera Wildlife Lodge is recommended for those seeking simple (no frills) accommodations and maximum wildlife viewing. However, if luxury is a bigger priority over game viewing, then the other two lodges in the Central Serengeti including the Serengeti Serena Lodge and the Serengeti Sopa Lodge may make a better choice. For those seeking the ultimate luxury adventure and something a little more rewarding then a large buffet line, the Private Luxury Camp may be the best choice. Tarangire Safari Lodge. Located inside the Tarangire National Park, Tarangire Safari Lodge is beautifully situated on a bluff with magnificent views overlooking the Tarangire River and the Baobab studded landscape. Each of the comfortable tent has thatched roofs for sun protection, as you sit right outside your veranda enjoying the best game-viewing Lake Manyara Hotel definitely has the most magnificent position overlooking the park from a steep-side promontory at the top of the escarpment. It is a classic 1970's style of construction, right down to the man gliding his rotary parquet floor polisher across the dining room. This lodge has recently come under new ownership and we are very much looking forward to seeing what they plan to do with it.

Plantation Lodge. A lovely farmhouse converted to a lodge run by a German couple, Plantation Lodge offers fresh foods from their farm home cooked style. This cozy homely lodge built within a coffee plantation overlooks the beautiful hills and valleys of Karatu, a region known for its coffee plantations, sugar cane and rice fields. The beautiful well-kept gardens with a variety of flowers are very inviting for a walk in the evenings. There is also a pool to enjoy during the hot afternoons. Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. Set on the Rim of Ngorongoro Crater, each of the suites offer breathtaking views of the Ngorongoro Crater. Each of the rooms have an enclosed solarium with a rocking chair to relax and enjoy the splendid scenery. There is a swimming pool on the end of the rim for those daring enough to brave the cool weather ofNgorongoroRim. Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. Built on the Rim of a dormant and collapsed volcano, Ngorongoro Serena exists in perfect harmony with the natural environment. Awarded the green globe, the plant and ivy-covered stone camouflaged lodge has elegant rooms ornately decorated with local materials. Most of the rooms have a private terrace offering incredible views of the vast conservation area inhabited by the Maasai tribe as well as an extraordinary variety of wildlife and birdlife.

Southern Serengeti: Ndutu Safari Lodge. Situated in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the southern short grass plains of the Serengeti ecosystem lays Ndutu Lodge. Standing amongst acacia woodland near Lake Ndutu, the stone cottages sit unobtrusively in the wilderness, offering the quintessential setting for the experiencing the peace of the Serengeti. Lake Manyara National Park Area: Kirurumu Tented Lodge. Built on the escarpment of the Great East African Rift Valley, Kirurumu offers a spectacular panoramic view of Lake Manyara and the surrounding area. Each of the eco-friendly simple yet comfortable tents, pierced on a natural stone, have their own verandah offering privacy to enjoy the view in luxury. The lodge is built strategically with close attention paid to landscape and lighting so as not to disturb the pattern of migratory bird. Serengeti Serena Lodge. Located in the Seronera, an area rich with wildlife year round, Serengeti Serena is set discreetly high on a hill, offering magnificent view of the rolling unspoiled wilderness of the Serengeti plains. The theme of the lodge reflects a Maasai Village complete with Maasai Warriors. The interior décor of each of the rooms, circular in shape indigenous to the traditional architect, depict the bird migration pattern creating a scene of idyllic serenity. Tarangire National Park: Tarangire Sopa Lodge. A 'low profile' structure, Tarangire Sopa nestles into a wooded hillside valley overlooking Tarangire Hill. Each of the rooms is comfortable with basic necessities provided. Tarangire Sopa has a large public area to relax in the evenings and enjoy the surrounding baobab filled landscape.
