Presentation transcript:

Year 3 Summer 1 Topic Year 3 will be learning about the destructive powers of nature, from volcanoes and earthquakes to tsunamis and tornadoes. Through discussion and practical tasks, children will learn about how and why these natural phenomena occur, and the ways in which they affect people and the environment. Literacy Our text this term takes us on a voyage to sunny African plains. Children will be using a version of the Lion King to focus on characterisation. They will invent their own stories using description, action and speech to create complex and convincing characters. Maths We will be developing our fluency in mental multiplication and division before moving on to formal written methods. We will continue to do lots of problem solving, reasoning and algebra using our knowledge of the times tables. Science Children will be exploring animals and human beings. They will look at the right types and amount of nutrition as well as the functions of skeletons and muscles. Homework will be assigned every Friday and will be due in on the following Thursday at the latest. Reading, spellings and times table practice also form an important part of homework; these should be practised daily. PE kits and water bottles should be in school every week. PE will take place every Monday and Wednesday.
