Adventures In The Milky way Emma Gandy Computer 5
Our Solar System: Inner Planets Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. It is grey, covered in craters, and has no atmosphere. It is very dense and temperatures can reach 590K degrees. It has no moons. The second planet from the sun is Venus, it is yellowish white and has sulfuric acid clouds. There are no moons in its orbit. Earth has blue oceans, white clouds, and mostly green land. It is a unique planet since it has life. It has one moon and is the third planet from the sun. Mars is a reddish orange planet covered in iron rocks. It is the last inner planet in our solar system and has two moons: Phobos and Deimos.
Our Solar System: Outer Planets The largest and fifth planet from the sun is Jupiter. It is orange with white ammonia clouds and is gas giant. Jupiter has a 67 moons. Saturn, the sixth planet from the sun is another gas giant. It has rings and is a pale yellow color. 60 moons orbit Saturn Uranus has 27 moons that orbit it. It is light blue because of its methane clouds. It is a gas giant, has rings, and is the seventh planet from the sun. The last gas giant and planet from the sun is Neptune. Neptune is light blue due to methane. It has 14 moons and some rings.
Dwarf Planets Pluto and Eris are both dwarf planets. Eris is larger than Pluto. Eris was discovered in 2005 and Pluto was discovered in 1930.
Another name for Earth is Gaea. Earth’s Surface Another name for Earth is Gaea.
Earth’s Oceans Earth has five oceans: Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern, and Arctic. The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean and the Arctic Ocean is the smallest ocean. An ocean is a large body of water and it is the largest division of open water. A sea is a division of an ocean. The North Pole contains the largest ice cap. If both of the poles melted, the sea level would rise 216 feet. About 70% of Earth’s freshwater are in both polar caps together.
Earth’s continents Earth has seven continents. North America’s highest mountain is Mount McKinley. South America’s longest river is the Amazon River. Africa’s longest river is the Nile River. Asia’s highest mountain is Mount Everest. Europe’s longest river is the Volga River. Australia’s highest mountain is Mount Kosciusko. Antarctica’s highest mountains is Vinson Massif.
Grand Canyon The Grand Canyon is located in Arizona. It was formed by the erosion of water and wind. It is 6,000 feet deep and 18 miles wide.
Surface of Mars Mars is called the Red Planet because of iron rich rocks on its surface. It has no continents because of no water on its surface. This also means there are no oceans on mars. The southern half of mars is covered in craters and the northern half is covered with lava-filled plains. The highest mountain on mars is Olympus Mons, it is three times higher than Mount Everest. Mars polar ice caps are made up of Martian air that freezes during winter. The topography of Mars and Earth is similar. They both have mountains, water, and canyons. The largest canyon on Mars is Valles Marineris. It is 3,000 kilometers long and the Grand Canyon is only 800 kilometers long.
Curiosity and Mars Curiosity discovered that Mars lacks methane, found water, and organic compounds in a rock. Curiosity is the size of a small SUV, it travels 660 feet per day, and it costs 2.5 billion dollars.
Conclusion I Learned A Lot About Our Solar System. I Used Google, Google Images, My Worksheet, And Other Websites. I Hope You Enjoyed This Presentation! :)
