MISSION-Focus is Fundraising To raise and provide financial resources for The National Exchange Club and its Programs of Service, including our National Project, the prevention of child abuse. The Mission of the NEC Foundation is clear – to raise money for the programs of Exchange and the national project.
How are we Supported? Dues $10 per member per year Annual Exchange Strong Campaign – clubs and members Tribute Gifts – memorials, in honor of gifts Berkey Fellowships - $1,000 per year IRA Gifts Heritage Society – from Estate plans or Life Insurance $10 of the annual dues assessed by the National Exchange Club are restricted by the bylaws for CAP programs. No funds from dues are used to support the operations of the National Exchange Club Foundation. Less than 3% of Exchange members giving to the Annual Exchange Strong Campaign. We would like to see that increase this year – to reach more donors that will commit to $60 per year – that’s just $5 per month. Tribute gifts – great way to honor or memorialize someone. Berkey donations are unrestricted unless you let us know. You may gift your Required Minimum Distribution from your IRA if you are 70 ½. You are a member of the Heritage Society if you let us know that the NECF is in your estate plans or the benefactor of your life insurance policy. Contributions to the National Exchange Club Foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed under the Internal Revenue Code for 501(c)(3) organizations.
Sources of Funding The NEC Foundation’s total budget is approximately $600,000 per year including Berkey. $10 of the annual dues assessed by the National Exchange Club are restricted by the bylaws for CAP and promotion of the National Exchange Club. In 2015-16, $173,000 of unrestricted contributions was for the Passthrough Grants. Contributions to the National Exchange Club Foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed under the Internal Revenue Code for 501(c)(3) organizations.
Efficient use of Funds Programs/Exempt Purposes – 82% Administration – 12% Fundraising – 6% The Foundation is one of the most efficient non-profits in getting dollars to its programs. The Better Business Bureau standard is at least 65%. The Foundation has an A+ rating with the BBB. An increase in giving will go directly to our Programs/Exempt Purposes – we don’t need more administrative or fundraising.

How do we Help Locally? Use of the NECF 501(c)3 for donations Clubs’ donors Passthrough Grants (more than $173,000 went back to clubs in 2016) Disaster Relief Through the Passthrough Grant process - a club’s donor can utilize the NECF’s 501(c)3 tax exempt status as a “flow-thru”. The NECF in-turn send all monies back to the club. The club can utilize these monies for the local projects, while the donor gets the tax advantage. The Foundation gladly provides this service to clubs at no charge. Many community foundations charge as much as 15-18% for processing. In 2016, more than $173,000 in passthrough monies went back to clubs. The NECF is utilized to funnel funds to areas devastated by natural disasters. The NEC Foundation has a set up fund for Disaster Relief specifically for those Exchange clubs/members that may be in need after a disaster strikes (such as Hurricane Sandy, Louisiana flooding, California wildfires, Hurricane Matthew, and upon request, etc).
What if Every Member … Every Exchangite, Every Year Gave $5 monthly = $60 a year Recurring monthly donations 15,000 members = $900,000 Our long-term goal is to have every Exchange Club member make a contribution to the Foundation every year. Recurring donations are available - as little as $5 per month. If every member gave $5 per month (15,000 members) would mean an extra $900,000 to go toward Programs of Service and the National Project.
Exchange Strong Campaign This year’s Exchange Strong Giving Campaign brochure highlights what past Youth of the Year and ACE winners are doing now. Both of these young women were extremely grateful for how Exchange has made a difference in their lives.
