Decimals In a decimal, there is a tenths place, a hundredths place, a thousandths place, and so on.
Tenths A tenth is one of ten equal parts of a whole. 5/10 is written as 0.5, and 7/10 is written as 0.7. You can use a grid to show decimals. Here, 9/10 or 0/9 is shown.
Hundredths A hundredth is one equal part of a hundred. For example, 21/100 is written as 0.21. It means that there are 21 parts out of 100. This grid shows 0.25 or 25/100.

Converting Decimals to Fractions When you convert decimals to fractions, you have to write the fraction in simplest form. Example: The decimal 0.2 is 2/10. In simplest form, you would write 2/10 as 1/5. Therefore the decimal 0.2 is written in simplest form as 1/5.
