Lunar Phases (or Phases of the Moon) The moon revolves around the earth. The two are attracted to each other because of gravity. Gravity is a force of attraction between two objects and is explained by Newton’s law of universal gravitation As the moon revolves around the earth, it appears differently to people on Earth. There are 8 main phases of the moon:
