How Do We Keep Safe During a Lab? The Importance of Lab Safety

Before the Experiment You must have a signed safety contract on file before participating in labs. Follow all general and specific instructions given by the teacher regarding a lab. Read through the entire procedure before beginning the experiment. If you have any questions, please ask.

Lab Safety Only perform activities authorized by the teacher. Wear safety goggles and lab aprons as instructed. Report to the teacher immediately any damaged equipment. Never eat or drink in the lab unless specifically told to do so by your teacher.

Lab Safety Keep work areas clean at all times. Bring only notebooks and lab procedures to the work area. Backpacks should be left in the designated area. Do not engage in horseplay.

First Aid Always report all accidents or injuries to your teacher. Be aware of the location of the first aid kit, but do not use it unless instructed by your teacher. Know the location of the emergency equipment such as the fire blanket, fire extinguisher and eye wash.

End of Experiment Turn off and unplug any electrical equipment that you use. Clean up your work area, return all equipment to its proper place, and wipe down your lab station. Dispose of waste materials as instructed by your teacher. Wash your hands after every experiment.
