Senior Guidance Calendar & College Cost Comparison

FAFSA Changes Students will be able to file for aid beginning October 1-a full three months earlier than previously allowed. (fafsa.ed.gov) Applicants will use prior-prior year tax information when reporting personal and family income.

Step One—The Application Students complete the application online Applications and instructions on the application process/requirements can be found on the colleges’ websites. Review what you will need for the application to be complete: Essay? Letters of Recommendation? Fill out the application completely!

Step Two—The Admission Essay If your application requires an essay, follow the directions and make sure you answer the question/s. Be authentic! Don’t write about what you think they want to hear. Colleges are really stressing the importance of the essay in the application review process!

Step 3—Letters of Recommendation NOT EVERY COLLEGE REQUIRES LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION! If your student needs a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or administrator, they should notify them 3-4 weeks in advance. Good letters require considerable time and effort and you don’t want to rush a person who is trying to help you. Schools are most interested in seeing letters from teachers of core subjects: -Math -Science -Social Studies -English

Step 4—Submitting an Application Review carefully to make sure your students has completed all sections of the application and to check for errors. Students will need to fill out a Transcript Request Form and return to Mrs. Spoon (Office Administrator) to be processed within 2-4 school days.

Important Dates September 29th from 5-7pm-North Little Rock College Fair TBA-Financial Aid Night sponsored by Pulaski Technical College Financial Aid Director, LaVonne Juhl ACT Dates: October 22 & December 10 (LAST CALL FOR INSTITUTIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS) College representatives will be on campus throughout the year to speak with prospective Juniors & Seniors. Don’t forget Application deadlines vary depending on the university. Students will need to allow enough time for transcript processing. 5 WORKING DAYS

Scholarships Scholarship information is located in the High School office in the “Senior Scholarship Opportunities Binder” Scholarship information will be emailed to parents through Mrs. Redic’s listserv. FASTWEB.COM,SCHOLARSHIPS.COM, & NICHE.COM are all EXCELLENT scholarship databases. Check local businesses & restaurants (on-line) The most important source for financial aid for most students will be available through the financial aid office at the school they will be attending.
