Meet Mrs. Werner Moved to Arizona in 2001from Rapid City, SD Earned my Bachelors in K-8 education from NAU in 2005. Graduated with honors in 2011 with a Masters in Educational Technology Taught technology for 5 years in K-8 and Higher Education Been teaching in some form or another since 1996 My T.R.E.C. (Technology, Robotics, Electronics, and Computers) class curriculum won the CenturyLink & AzTEA Teachers and Technology grant in 2013.

Overarching Class Goal: To help students create a Growth Mindset What is Growth Mindset? A Growth Mindset is to teach “children to love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort, and keep on learning… They will have a lifelong way to build and repair their own confidence.” Carol Dweck, Mindset, p. 176-177

Class Make-up Project Based Learning Daily tasks Weekly or Bi-Weekly Projects A place to explore, create, innovate, and learn new skills For this class students are allowed to bring their own headphones and Flash Drives. These will be stored in the backpack. Helpful items would be a 1in -2in three ring binder.

Assignments Assignments will be placed on Mrs. Werner’s Website Students will Receive and Turn in Assignments using the Website This can be accessed on any computer through the Kyrene Website During the semester assignments will move into an online turn in system using Office 365. Permission and Info slips will be sent home during the second week explaining any online program usage for the class. Homework for this class will be very minimal. Students will be given enough time in class to complete assignments. Syllabi will be posted on Mrs. Werner’s class page during the 1st week (after they are presented in class)

Student Safety and Security Students will use only Kyrene technology in the G2 media room. (No personal phones, computers, cameras, or music players will be needed) Students are given individual logins. Logins are monitored by the teacher and district for all information entered on a district computer. Media class will strictly follow the Kyrene School District Technology Policy located in the handbook

Grading This class will use the 4 point grading scale. Grades are weighted: 90 % Assessments (Tests, Projects, Quizzes) 10% Practice (Assignments, Typing Practice, Workbooks)

Percentage-Based Grading to Letter Grade 4-Point Scale Student’s Progress towards Achieving the Grade Level Curriculum State Standard 100% A+ 4 Student has Exceeded Proficiency on the state standard and achieving above grade level comprehension. 95% A 3.5 90% A- 3 Student has Met Proficiency on the state standard and has learned what is required at grade level. 89% B+ Student is Approaching Proficiency on the state standard with degrees of understanding and difficulty. 85% B 80% B- 2.5 79% C+ 75% C 70% C- 2.0 69% D+ Student is Below Proficiency on the state standard and at risk of missing valuable grade level content. 65% D 1.5 60% D- 1.0 50% F 0.0 Student has demonstrated NO EVIDENCE towards proficiency or understanding grade level content.

How do I check my student’s grades? StudentVue & ParentVue If you can’t access ParentVue, use your student’s login and password for StudentVue.

Grading Each project will be turned in, graded, and comments given digitally. Workbooks will be done on paper copies. Information will be given in class on how to access these assignments. Each week grades will be posted on ParentVue/StudentVue. I will also post upcoming assignments on ParentVue/StudentVue.

Communication Your are always welcome to Call or Email me. I will send emails through Synergy to communicate with you. This way it will be visible through ParentVue. Please make sure your information is up to date in the CMS ListServ.
