Our Programs

About Stepping Into Paid internship in Winter or Summer university break Degree-relevant work experience Develop skills, build network, enhance your resume HOW DID STEPPING INTO BEGIN? AND partnered with Sparke Helmore Lawyers to offer clerkships exclusively to law students with disability in 2005. HOW DOES IT WORK? Employers offer opportunities for students with disability to gain work experience in various disciplines. WHAT CAN I EXPECT? Interview experience, a supportive recruitment process, valuable feedback, and degree-relevant work.

How it works? Placements are for a minimum 152 hours, which can be worked as a four-week block or flexibly across a semester of study. The attendance format is negotiated between student and supervisor. Internships can be hosted at an organisation’s head office, regional or other location that gives students a chance to experience a range of tasks and project challenges, commensurate with their study and interests.  Each candidate’s eligibility for Stepping Into is verified by AND. We’ll guide the host organisation on adjustments that will facilitate successful business outcomes. The nature of a student’s disability will not be shared with the host organisation.

Information for Employers and Benefits Stepping Into is a national internship program that connects skilled and talented university students with disability to your business. It will support you to cultivate an inclusive and diverse workplace culture. Managers and supervisors who have taken part in the program are impressed by the high calibre of students and tell us the program supports their colleagues to build their disability confidence. Business benefits Increase your disability confidence by working alongside people with disability. Be an employer of choice for people with disability. Grow a diverse and inclusive workforce to support innovation and change.  Gain customer loyalty. Strengthen workplace morale and productivity.  Studies show employees with disability have fewer scheduled absences than employees without disability, as well as increased tenure.

Information for Students and Benefits AND’s Stepping Into program can help you gain paid, hands-on work experience with leading Australian businesses. We work closely with these sought-after organizations' to ensure quality internships are delivered in accessible and inclusive working environments. Grow your self-confidence and build your network of contacts, while you study. Stepping Into will make it easier for you to transition from study to employment. Benefits Gain valuable career-relevant work experience. Learn new skills to enhance your resume. Grow your knowledge of your chosen industry and get a ‘foot in the door’. Develop networking and social skills in a professional environment. Improve your job application and interview techniques. Preview a job or workplace to see if it’s right for you. Receive support throughout the program.
