Warm-Up: Pictures Look at three pictures. Try to guess what the pictures are and explain why you think so.

Vocabulary Inference- Something that you already know about a problem. Hypothesis- An educated guess using inferences.

Where are inferences from? Inferences can come from accepted knowledge Examples: Bears poop in the woods, fire is hot, the sky is blue, etc…. Inferences can come from observations Examples: Peter makes noise when he is bored, Ariana smiles a lot, Jashone likes food.

Activity: Dino Prints Look at 3 pictures of dino prints. Try to put the prints so that they match up with each other. Your job as a paleontologist (ancient scientist) is to tell the story of what happened using these fossilized footprints.

Another Example…. Key question: Why do all of the plants grow in the same direction? Observation: What can you see when you look at the plants? Inferences: What do you know about plants that might explain why this happens? Hypothesis: Answer the key question using your inferences.
