WORRY WALL. Of all the poems you were expected to revise over the half term – which one are you concerned about? What concerns (if any) do you have about comparing two of the poems? Ask students to write a “worry” on a post-it on the white board. Assess (collectively as a class) which poem they would like more in depth analysis/closer look at today (if needs be).

Task: Poetry revision dominoes! In groups of four, you will be given eight dominoes. On the left hand side – start with a poem you all collectively feel confident with. Write the title at the top. For example – start with ‘Checking Out Me History’. Write down one key idea from this poem – with a key quotation/possible theory and context. Now on the right hand side of the domino – write the title of a poem you think this compares with. Add similar notes for this one. Complete all eight dominoes – match them up! (REMEMBER – some poems will compare to more than one poem) Remains: Armitage uses violent lexis – ‘rips through’ and ‘tosess his guts’ to describe the death of the looter.
