SEIS vision From Reporting to Online Services Current data reporting Online information services Countries Organisations Countries Organisations 4

SEIS is about… 1. Shared (cooperation) Political commitment (legislative/non-legislative) Partnership (win-win) Networking (connecting) 2. Environmental Information (shared content) Horizontal integration (thematic) Vertical integration (local to global) Online access (near real time) For policy makers and public (multi-purpose) 3. System (technology) Existing ICT Infrastructure Inspire, Reportnet, GMES,... New e-Services (e-Government) We see three pillars of both Eionet and SEIS which are necessary for any networking activity: Organisation – cooperation Common content Infrastructure and tools 5

SEIS Conceptual Framework Shared content Data and information Air Land use Integerated prod. Climate Change Biodiversity Soil Forests Waste Water Natural resources ... Technology Data and information services Reportnet, ICT, EEA SDI, Inspire, GMES,... Institutional cooperation Networking, Eionet, Group of 4, EPAs, agreements, country visits... 6

SEIS implementation at EEA Strategy 2009-2013 Shared content EEA data centre services i.e. air, climate change, biodiversity, water, land use Core set of indicators State and outlook of Europe’s environment 2010+ Assessment of Europe’s ecosystem services Technology Further Reportnet enhancements Inspire implementation Cooperation SEIS country visits Group of 4 SEIS impact assessment and implementation plan GMES in-situ coordination SEIS in the European neighbourhood (ENPI, Horizon2020) 7
