2013 Gas Utility Operations Best Practices Program – Meter Protection ***Discussion Topic*** Mike Faulkenberry Matthew Helmers Lisa Kallberg

How we protect our meters: Barricades Bollards Shelters EFVs Other

Who Pays for Meter Protection? The Customer - Contract or Tariff The Company - Public Relations Who is ultimately responsible (49CFR – Part 192.353)

Best Practices Company pro-actively reviews and protects MSA’s through the ways described on previous slide, or relocation of MSA to safer location Review local regulations (building codes, fire codes, plumbing codes, etc.) for better enforcement of meter protection Invest in new technologies that will stop gas flow if MSA is hit/damaged Work with Utility Commissions for enforcement or agreement for Tariff changes/cost recovery.

Best Practices Open it up to other utilities to describe how they have protected their MSA’s
