Neurons Neurons are made up of three basic parts. Cell body- the operation center of the cell which contains the cell’s nucleus. Dendrites- extend from the cell body and receive incoming messages. Hint: Dendro=tree (Greek)

Terminal Fibers- Ending of the axon where the synapses are located. Axon- Part of the neuron that carries messages away from the cell body and to another neuron. Hint: Axon=Away Terminal Fibers- Ending of the axon where the synapses are located. Hint: Terminal=end (terminal patient)

Receptor- Protein in a neuron that neurotransmitter binds to. Neurotransmitter- Chemical messenger that communicate the signal to the next neuron. Hint: Transfer between neurons Receptor- Protein in a neuron that neurotransmitter binds to.

Neurons and Transmitters Neurons constantly carry information throughout the brain and body. They pass electrical messages from one to another without touching. The axon of one neuron and the dendrite of another are separated by synapses

Passing the message By the use of spinal motor neurons, consists of a cell body and a long thin axon covered by myelin. Around the cell body is a branching dendrite tree that receives signals from other neurons.
