Location “Where is it?” Everything on earth has its own LOCATION – the place where it can be found ABSOLUTE V. RELATIVE

Examples of Location Absolute: Relative: Mrs. Musca’s classroom is room 22. Address Longitude & Latitude Relative: SWS is behind Burger King Mrs. Musca’s classroom is next to Mrs. Acovino’s

Place “What is it like there?” Every place has physical and human characteristics, or features, that make it different from all other places. Physical features are formed by nature. Human features are created by people.

Examples of Place New York Empire State Building Niagara Falls Statue of Liberty Catskills Chrysler Building Hudson River SWS Adirondack Mountains One Direction World Store Long Island Freedom Tower Fire Island Montauk Lighthouse Brooklyn Bridge Yankee Stadium

Human-Environment Interactions “How are the lives there shaped?” People and their surroundings interact, or affect each other. People’s activities may modify, or change, the environment. The environment may affect people, requiring them to adapt, or adjust, to their surroundings.

Human-Environment Interaction Examples Air-conditioning in the summer Heat in the winter Roads Bridges Shoveling snow Jones Beach Warm clothes in the winter/cool clothes in the summer.

Regions “How is this place like other places?” Areas of Earth with main features that make them different from other areas are called regions. A region can be described by its physical features or its human features.

Examples of Regions The Southwest The West The Northeast The Midwest The Southeast The Tri-State area New England

Movement “How do people ideas and goods move to and from this place?” Every day, people in different states and countries exchange products and ideas.
