Fishery Ecosystem Plan Initiative 2: Agenda Item D.1.a Supplemental EWG PowerPoint September 2016 Fishery Ecosystem Plan Initiative 2: Coordinated Ecosystem Indicators and Annual Report Review Ecosystem Workgroup Presentation for D.1.a. September 2016

What can we reasonably expect to learn from or monitor with the existing indicators in the California Current Ecosystem Status Report? How well do the existing indicators accomplish their intent? Are any redundant? Are there alternate indicators (or information or analyses) that may perform better? Are there additional indicators that could help Council decision-making?

January 12: Contents of the Annual California Current Ecosystem Status Report; physical oceanography indicators (Toby Garfield & Chris Harvey) January 14: Biological indicators (Chris Harvey & Greg Williams) January 26: Human dimensions indicators (Karma Norman & Dan Holland) January 28: Freshwater, estuarine and marine habitat indicators (Correigh Greene) February 2: Risk assessments and applications of indicators to decision making. (Jameal Samhouri & Elliott Hazen)

EWG: Recommendations for future directions for ecosystem status report Identify other products and processes to evaluate impacts of Council decisions Draft an annual process for the Council to provide ongoing direction on ecosystem status report contents Draft an annual process for the Council to receive guidance from the Centers on species that might be subject to Management Strategy Evaluations (e.g. sablefish)

SAS & STT EWG & EAS Ecosystem Scientists Council

Council guidance on: Whether the annual ecosystem status report process should include interactive discussions on future directions for ecosystem science Forwarding reports and recommendations of advisory bodies to Centers for their consideration
