House of Hades The DOMOS HAIDOU (House of Hades) was the land of the dead--the final resting place for departed souls. It was a dark and dismal realm where bodiless ghosts flitted across the grey fields of asphodel. The Homeric poets knew of no Elysian Fields or Tartarean Hell, rather all shades--heroes and villians alike--came to rest in the gloom of Haides.
Realm of Hades Odysseus as he has to travel to the underworld to learn how to manage the remainder of his journey home
Odysseus fulfills the archetype of crossing the threshold (moving from the physical world in which he is familiar and comfortable into an unknown world of mystery and vulnerability)
Many of the conversations that he has in this realm change him as a character.
