Social Norms Definition Interventions “Information about what other people are doing and what they approve of” (Wilson, 2011) Injunctive norms = behaviors approved or disapproved of Descriptive norms = behaviors people normally engage in Interventions Educational interventions in schools Media and entertainment interventions Peer influence and discussion groups Limitations and directions for the future People interpret messages differently depending on context  hard to evaluate effectiveness Low-prejudice participants were not affected by others’ beliefs Combine descriptive and injunctive norms
