PHYLUM ANNELIDA

Phylum Annelida- Class Polychaeta: parapodium w/ setae & acicula Phylum Annelida- Class Polychaeta: parapodium w/ setae & acicula. Parapodia are used for locomotion, sensory & respiration. [fig 6.3-A]

Phylum Annelida- Class Polychaeta. Polychaete dissection. Note esophageal caeca and muscular pharynx. Remember, polychaete worms have parapodia (which look like “fins”) [fig 6.4] Phylum Annelida- Class Polychaeta.

Phylum Annelida- Class Oligochaeta: note typhlosole (increases surface area to aid in digestion). [fig 6.8]

Phylum Annelida- Class Oligochaeta: close-up of intestine w/ typhlosole. [fig 6.8]

Phylum Annelida- Class Oligochaeta: note longitudinal & circular muscles, nephridium, and the coelom. [fig 6.8]

Phylum Annelida- Class Oligochaeta. Earthworm dissection[fig 6.7]

Phylum Annelida- Class Hirudinea. View of both preserved organism (A) and slide of whole mount (B). Note segmentation, as well as the 2 suckers found in all leeches. Remember all leeches are not blood-suckers. [fig 6.9] A B Phylum Annelida- Class Hirudinea.
