CHS Freshman Registration Information 8th GRADE Guidance Lesson – Monday, January 29th

You are getting… Today in advisory, your teacher will give you your CHS Registration Forms. Endorsement Selection Form 9th Grade Student Course Selection Sheet This packet is VERY IMPORTANT….Don’t lose it! Once you get it completed, turn it into your HISTORY teacher.

Endorsement and Cluster Selection Form As an incoming freshman, you are expected to select one Endorsement Area and specify one cluster within that area. This Endorsement Area and Cluster will guide which CTE Course you will take as a freshman.

Endorsement and Cluster Selection Form It is important to choose this endorsement and cluster carefully. You will not be allowed to change your endorsement area until the end of your freshman year.

Endorsement Selection Form ALL 8th Graders must choose ONE. You have a choice of 5 Pathways to choose from. STEM Business and Industry Public Services Arts and Humanities Multidisciplinary Studies (May not be selected until the completion of the 10th grade year.)

Choose STEM if You are Interested in the following Careers STEM (Endorsement) Clusters Include: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Engineering Advanced Science Advanced Math  

Business/Industry (Endorsement) Clusters Include: Choose Business/Industry if You are Interested in the following Careers Business/Industry (Endorsement) Clusters Include: Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Architecture and Construction Audio-visual, and Communications Business Management and Administration Finance   Hospitality and Tourism (Culinary Arts) Information Technology Marketing Manufacturing Transportation, Distribution and Logistics Advanced Journalism

Choose Public Service if You are Interested in the following Careers Public Service (Endorsement) Clusters Include: Education and Training Health Science Human Services Law, Public Safety, and Security JROTC  

Choose Arts & Humanities if You are Interested in the following Careers Arts & Humanities (Endorsement) Clusters Include: Art Dance Music Theatre Languages Other than English Social Studies  

Choose Multidisciplinary if You are Interested in the following Careers May only be chosen after 10th grade  

Complete the Endorsement Selection Form (Top page of Packet) Print your LEGAL First and Last Name. Check “Corsicana Middle School” Check ONE Endorsement Area Get your Parent Signature + You Sign (First & Last Name) Write the date you signed Write it your Cluster (Look on right column for options)

Complete the Student Course Selections Sheet (The 2nd page of your Packet) You will select ONE class per gray highlighted area.

Pre-AP English 1, Pre-AP Algebra, Pre-AP Geometry, Pre-AP Biology, Pre-AP World Geography Spanish 1 Pre-AP will require an English teacher signature Spanish 2 Pre-AP will require Ms. Maldonado’s signature Mrs. Phillips Mrs. Parler Mrs. Maldonado

Complete the Student Course Selections Sheet (The 2nd page of your Packet) NO teacher signature, means NO Pre- AP You must come prepared on your designated registration date with the proper signatures. You will NOT be permitted to interrupt classes to get a signature. Mrs. Phillips Mrs. Parler Mrs. Maldonado

Selecting a Foreign Language All students must have 2 years of the same foreign language. Select Spanish 1 or French 1 if you did NOT take Spanish at CMS If you have completed 2 years of Spanish at Drane/CMS you do not have to choose a foreign language.

Selecting a Fine Arts All students must have 1 year of fine arts If you are interested in becoming a Calico choose “Dance (Calico Tryouts)”

Selecting your CTE COUrse for Endorsement If you selected Business and Industry for your endorsement you can choose from: Principals of ANFR (Agriculture, Welding, Animal Science) BIM for IT/AVBUS/CA/FIN BIM for Construction/Manufacturing Principals of Transportation If you selected Public Services choose from: Principals of Human Services Principals of Law and Safety Health Science If you selected STEM choose: Introduction to Engineering Design

Selecting your CTE Course for Endorsement If your endorsement is Arts and Humanities, you encouraged to sign up for a CTE course that interests you.

Selecting your Physical Education Course All students must select one Physical Education course. Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Cross Country, Softball and Tennis are competitive athletics and adhere to UIL regulations.

Selecting Alternate Classes Write in 3 alternate choices for classes. These are courses you do not mind taking if your first will not work with your schedule. Select these courses from Fine Arts and CTE courses. If you do not choose an alternate, the counselors will choose for you if your first choice is full.

Finishing up! Check the same endorsement area you did on the first page. Write in the cluster you selected on the first page. Sign your first and last name and put the date you completed your form. Get your parent to sign Check the same endorsement you checked on the front page Sign your first and last name. Write the date. Check the same cluster you checked on the front page Get your parent to sign.

When Will I register? You must have your registration packet completed by the day your history class is scheduled to meet with the CHS Counselors Monday, February 5th – Mrs. Short’s Classes Tuesday, February 6th – Ms. Grave’s Classes Thursday, February 8th – Ms. Petersons Classes Friday, February 9th – Coach Perkins’s Classes

When Will I register? If you get your packet complete with ALL needed signatures, turn it into your history teacher for safe-keeping! The CHS counselors are coming here to HELP you. If you have a questions, complete what you can, get your signatures, then write down your questions to help you remember to ask the CHS counselors.

One Last Thing…. If you are interested in Higher Start, more information will be presented at a parent/student Higher Start meeting on Monday, March 26th at 6:00 at CMS.
