Who we are Riverview STEM Academy is a comprehensive K-5th grade school with a year-long Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math program designed for students to become problem solvers and critical thinkers. Using the engineering design process and the scientific method with a dynamic hands-on science curriculum, students will employ STEM knowledge, skills, and habits of mind. Through critical and collaborative work, our students discover that it is OK to take risks and make mistakes.
PERSONAL PROPERTY – Do not bring it to school. THE SCHOOL IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR STUDENTS' DAMAGED OR LOST PERSONAL PROPERTY. Toys, balls, music players, electronic devices, stuffed animals, party invitations, or any personal property are not to be brought to school, unless requested by the student's teacher. 1st offense = Confiscation and returned at end of day. 2nd Confiscation = Parent pick-up. 3rd Confiscation = Return last day of school.
Phones, pagers, and technology devices shall: 1. Be turned off and placed out of sight during the instructional time of the school day (class time, passing periods, and recess) and at any other time when directed by a District employee. 2. Not disrupt the educational program or school activity. If the device is used at an inappropriate time, it may be confiscated. If a school employee finds it necessary to confiscate a device, he/she will give the device to school administration so that the parent can be notified. A parent/guardian will be required to pick up the device from the school. A student who violates this policy may be restricted from possessing a personal electronic signaling device at school or school-related events. 3. The school takes no responsibility for the loss or damage of such devices.

Math Times tables and division must be memorized; benchmark 20 problems in one minute;See me if you need ways to help your child memorize the times tables. Math homework Monday-Thursday; homework is due the day after it is assigned; please correct the problems each night with your child; students should ask questions about homework the next day When we get to the end of the topic (chapter) this means a test is coming. (see book) There will be pop quizzes during the chapter to inform students about what they know and what they need to practice. For homework, students will watch the videos online at Pearsonsuccessnet before the lesson is taught. They will have a math notebook and take notes for each lesson.
Homework Homework is recorded in a daily planner. Math Monday-Thursday Keep all papers in accordion folder. Save all papers until the end of the school year. Students will read at least 20 minutes each day; complete a reading activity, record their reading on the reading log; take AR tests at school after reading a book. Writing and science on occasion.

Accelerated Reader (AR) quizzes •3 chapter books per trimester at AR level •Must pass AR test with at least an 80% •Each book is worth 10 points for a total of 30 points each trimester toward your Lang. Arts grade. •Can check progress at home (handout will go home in Friday folders ) •It is your CHILD’S RESPONSIBILITY to take tests.
Grades Principal’s List: all A's Honor Roll: a GPA of 3.5 or better in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, Math, Science, Social Studies and Music. (4 A’s and no C’s) The subjects will be averaged on a point basis: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1 and F=0.

Grading Grading Policy assignments are weighted homework, classwork, quizzes, tests scores C- and below; corrections accepted to raise score to Important Parent Tip Have your child check Powerschool at least once a times a week. Make sure he/she completes and turns in all assignments and makes corrections on assignments that are C- or lower.
Friday Folders •Each Friday, your child’s Friday Folder will be sent home. •In it, you will find notes or reminders from the office, PTA, or me. •The folder will also hold papers that need to be corrected, and recorded assignments from the previous week. •Please review all the papers, sign, and return the folder the next Monday. •Save graded work until the report card for the trimester has been received. Quizzes/tests with a “Parent Signature” stamp must be signed and returned.

Volunteers Needed A yearbook parent who can help with class page photos, either collecting them from parents or taking them at field trips and in the classroom. Back of the form -opt-in sections requires a parent signature to give Sly Park permission to include the student in the weekly slide show -AT the BOTTOM your signature gives permission for your student to attend Sly Park
