The Life Cycle of a Frog
Tadpoles The frog starts its life as an egg. The egg looks like a small black dot with jelly around it. The dot is the frog and the jelly it is surrounded by is its food. It is as big as a pea. The jelly-balls stick together and we call them frog-spawn.
The eggs change into tadpoles. The eggs change shape and get bigger. After seven days the eggs have almost turned into tadpoles. After ten days the eggs are ready to come out of the jelly-balls.
The tadpole grows back legs. After five weeks, the tadpole has grown back legs.
Front legs Soon the tadpole grows front legs. The tadpole starts to eat small animals that live in the water. The tadpoles tail begins to get shorter.
The tadpole has turned into a frog . It lives on dry land. After 15 weeks, the tadpole has turned into a tiny frog. The frog leaves the water and lives on dry land. It uses its strong back legs to jump from place to place. But the frog still goes back to the pond for a swim.
