About me 16th year in education (11th year @ DBHS) Internship @ El Dorado HS, Placentia Secondary Credential in Spanish CSU Fullerton Grad Major: Spanish AVID Instructor Workman High School & Buena Park HS Father from México and mother from Costa Rica Lived and studied in both countries ELD Coordinator & Football and Basketball coach

Goals for Spanish II H Learn and increase prior knowledge of the Spanish language and culture through inputs, activities, readings, and games in the target language Produce original material in unrehearsed situations in the target language

Class expectations Students come prepared to class daily Students conduct themselves respectfully Students participate in class activities, discussions and games to earn Puntos de participación (Classdojo) Students speak Spanish!!! Have fun! Participate + have fun = success!

Teaching Techniques We are trying to teach Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) Students will acquire language through in class storytelling and reading appropriate level novels

Grading Breakdown 1st Semester 2nd Semester Listening: 20% 10% (engagement, participation, assessments) Reading: 40% 40% (reading comprehension, stories, novels, culture)  Writing: 15% 20% (Quick writes, warm-up exercises, essays, stories)                 Speaking: 25% 30% (Presentations, speaking assessments, class participation)       

The outcome Students develop skills in Spanish and an appreciation for the Hispanic Culture on a daily basis Students have the opportunity to continue on to Spanish IV Students will continue to use Spanish outside of the classroom
