Mission Denton Sustainable Schools encourages students, families, faculty, and staff to improve our environment, create economic value, and support and strengthen the community through the implementation of comprehensive sustainability education.

Denton Sustainable Schools Program WATER AIR QUALITY & GHG ENERGY EFFICIENCY & CONSERVATION LAND USE & NATURAL SPACE TRANSPORTATION MATERIAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT LOCAL FOOD PRODUCTION Seven focus areas The seven focus areas of the program mirror the seven focus areas of the sustainability plan for the City of Denton, titled Simple Sustainable.

Program Requirements Designate one Sustainable Schools Campus Coordinator Acts as Liaison Responsible for tracking of activities Submits Mid and End of Year reporting Designate one Administrative Contact Principal or Vice Principal Submit the Program Enrollment Form by second Friday of October Complete MANDATORY Mid and End-of-year Reporting Mid-year due the second Friday of January End-of-year due the second Friday of June (Current due dates can be found on the website and Dates of Awareness)

Points System Recycling Points Non-recycling Points Recycling is collected from schools throughout the year and weighed by Denton Solid Waste Points are calculated on a lbs per student scale Points are earned by reporting activities, lessons, field trips, projects, etc. The School Resource Guide has many suggestions for earning points, though teachers are free to be creative and come up with their own!

Remember…. You can create your own activities as long as they fit under one of the seven focus areas Many of the things you are already doing are worth points, but we don’t know unless you report it! No award money will be given unless mid and end-of-year points trackers are submitted
