Percent Yield
Percent yield is the ratio of the actual yield to the theoretical yield (amount that can be made) times 100. %yield =( 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑎𝑙 𝑦𝑖𝑒𝑙𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑜𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑦𝑖𝑒𝑙𝑑 ) x 100 You will either get the actual yield or the % yield in the problem and will get all the information to find the theoretical yield. Then you can plug them into the equation and solve for what is missing.
N2 + 3H2 → 2NH3 If 23.09g N2 reacts with 8.26 g H2 according to the equation below and 21.62 g NH3 are produced, (a) what is the limiting reactant (b) what is the theoretical yield (c) what mass of the excess reactant remains and (d) what is the % yield of the reaction?
