European Geography

North of the Alps: Continental because the Alps keeps warm moist breezes from the Atlantic circulating. Spain and Italy and Greece: Mediterranean: warmer winters and hot dry summers because the Alps block any cold weather Atlantic: warm ocean current flowing northeast, under the influence of prevailing winds, from the Gulf of Mexico towards NW Europe and warming its climate, (Also called) Gulf Stream. Very cool and rainy Boreal: long, usually very cold winters, and short, cool to mild summers. Artic: very top potions of the world. Top of Russia. Includes Iceland. Every month in a polar climate has an average temperature of less than 10 °C (50 °F). Regions with polar climate cover more than 20% of the Earth. The sun shines for long hours in the summer, and for many fewer hours in the winter. A polar climate results in treeless tundra, glaciers, or a permanent or semi-permanent layer of ice. It has cool summers and very cold winters Steppe climate: grassy regions in Spain and the southern parts of Russia. Subtropical: Alpine: cold regions on mountains above the treeline
