WYB ROOKIE TACKLE Offensive Formations

Base Formation Ace Back Alignment H H A Q “L” Q A “R” T T H A H A Q Q “Empty R” “Empty L” The skill position begin in alphabetical order (H, T) Everything from here is a tag for each position and signaled in from each position coach. Formations are never called in the huddle and not part of the play call. This allows us to have the ability to run unlimited formations but keep the teaching minimal for our players. The Ace lines up based on the play called (Each play begins with L or R Example L Zone Right

(Aligns on opposite side) (Aligns on opposite side) H and T Alignments H Over (Aligns on opposite side) T Over (Aligns on opposite side) T T H H Q A Q A H Tight (as a wing) T Tight T H T H Q A Q A H back (R for the ace) You can call all your formations with these words for example! T T Over T Tight Q H A H T Q A

H Motions Hawaii (across) Hop (to QB) T T H H Q Q A A H-Blast (lead up never cross center) H-Wham (after snap Kickout DE) T T H H Q A Q A Hip (just before Guard) T H Q A Remember all these motions get flipped just by calling H Over

Running Plays You can run any offense that you want and any plays but I think we should have some constancy on formation calls. Since every player needs to learn multiply positions I would recommend deciding what 4 running play you like and sticking with them. Here would be some traditional spread plays. Inside Zone, Q Counter, Q/Ace Iso, Q/Ace Power, Toss Then I would add the fun reverses and such off of these plays. Remember this is a transition from flag to 11 v 11, the goal is that they have as much fun tackling as they do playing flag and that they actually want to go out in 5th grade for 11 v 11. I can help any coach build an offense or practice scripts. Finally, please understand in year one things won’t be perfect but based on the feedback from the Cleveland pilot last year parents and players love this system, so much so that after this year they have talked about making it 3rd-5th grade. Our goal should be to increase our numbers at all levels and I believe this will.

Defensive Alignment The rules are very clear on defensive alignment. You can either play Cover 0, 1, or 3. Most teams will elect to play Cover 1, with the Corners traveling with the WR’s. FS C C LB LB DE DE T H A Q
