Projects in basic education AJESR

GPE (1) The Global Partnership for Education is among the key partners in supporting education development in Zanzibar, since 2013 GPE first granted the government of Zanzibar USD 5.2 million to execute its three-year education sector plan, ZEDP I, from 2014-2016. Its overall objective was to improve student learning through Expanding and strengthening pre-primary programs such as the TuTu centers. An additional 120 pre-primary education centers were built and 550 pre-primary teachers were trained. Distributing high-quality science and math textbooks to all students of Standards 5 and 6. Providing learning materials for children with special needs Improving accountability of the overall education system. November 15, 2018

GPE (2) Phase 2 of GPE support will start in April 2018, for four years US$5.76 million grant was approved in December 2017 for Zanzibar The support is completely aligned to Zanzibar’s second education sector plan, the Zanzibar Education Development Plan II 2017/18- 2021/22 (ZEDP II) The Grant focuses on Giving more children in Zanzibar two years of pre-primary education, Helping schools and teachers meet inclusive education standards Expanding the use of high-quality, timely, and evidence-based education monitoring tools. Swedish Embassy (SIDA) (1) Sida has been continuously supporting education in Zanzibar from 2002 to date. Swedish Embassy (SIDA) (2) Sida has committed SEK 30 mil (US$ 3.78 mil) to support education in Phase VII. Sida Phase VII support will start in 2018 for three years. The Zanzibar Education Development Program II (ZEDP II) 2017/18– 2021/2022 is the main vehicle in the preparation of Phase VII support. World Bank The World Bank is supporting Zanzibar through the Zanzibar Improving Student Prospects (ZISP) project This project started in 2016 for five years (2016/17 - 2021/22) US$ 35 million loan approved in September 2016 The support is completely aligned to ZEDP II. The Project focuses on boosting performance in Math, Science and English (MSE) through Training of teachers from Std 5 to Form 2 on MSE Improving infrastructure (Labs, Libraries, Classrooms, WASH facilities) Improved School Autonomy and Learning Environment by providing schools with capitation grant. OFID – OPEC Fund Supporting education by increasing access through the Zanzibar Third Education Project.
