Agenda WS08 SPLA licensing changes in an overview Transition from WS03 to WS08 Windows Server Web 2008 Windows Server Datacenter 2008 Activation Process Call to Action Microsoft Confidential

Windows Server 2008 Launch January SPUR March Price List – License SKUs April Price List – Fulfillment SKUs Removed: External Connectors Did not really fit into the SPLA licensing model Anonymous Standard / Enterprise Datacenter anonymous remains At long last – Windows Server 2008 (the official name for Longhorn) is launching! This launch brings some substantial licensing and activation change! Let’s go over those now. ECs removed bcs they don’t cleanly fit the licensing construct of SPLA – Ecs in VL are acquired on top ofer servers. When Ecs were included in SPLA, they were procs. Does that mean they are in addition to a SAL? Needless to say, they are confusing – weren’t being licensed; we licensed 20 Windows EC’s … for every license I probably got 50 inquiries asking what the scenario was for Ecs. Replaced w/ “for Internet Sites” licenses (MOSS) Anonymous Removed because there’s lots of confusion; lots of mislicensing; wanted an interim approach to getting partners acquiring correct SKUs – that’s why DC remains OEM Proc makes sense and was being requested by OEM and w/ compliance opptys– not sure if it was an oversight we only had SAL before – got support from product group to add it We’ll have a non-Hyper Visor version of Windows. Won’t allow for virtualization. Will be mentioned in SPUR and will be on PL at slightly lower price (5% less). This is being done for legal reasons because of our market share position w/ Windows . Web Enhanced (Panama): removed 50 user limit for apps; still for front end servers Change w/ biggest impact is with new activation process and in a couple of slides I’ll be detailing that. Microsoft Confidential

Windows Server 2008 Launch (ct’ed) Added: OEM PL (for OEM version of WS08 pre-installed on the server) Was often requested to complete the OEM SAL offer Non-Virtualization offer for Standard/Enterprise/DataCenter Hyper-V technology removed Lower price Changed: Web Enhanced remains Use rights changes New Activation process OEM Proc makes sense and was being requested by OEM and w/ compliance opptys– not sure if it was an oversight we only had SAL before – got support from product group to add it We’ll have a non-Hyper Visor version of Windows. Transition from Windows 2003 to 2008 You can keep licensing/reporting 2003 SKUs if you still deploy WS2003 2003 Windows Standard Anonymous 21 € Windows Enterprise Anonymous 28 € 2008 Windows Server Standard 160 € Windows Server Enterprise 215 € Windows Web Server 12 € Windows DataCenter 55 € So, what’s most important with all of this is what’s the transition plan ….. If partners were licensing Windows anonymous with 2003, what are their options with 200? The options are: Windows Web Server on the front end and Windows DataCenter on the backend (provided it remains anonymous) If partners aren’t ready to deploy Windows 2008, they can keep reporting/paying for Windows 2003.

Windows Server Web 2008 Processor License 12 € SKU Front end web server Internet facing web pages, web applications, web services POP3 mail Can run biz apps (CRM, ERP) & internal collaboration and portal software on same server No limit on number of users Can run management agents (such as MOM agent) and database engines to support apps running in the same OS environment (such as SQL Server Standard) New product build Includes standard bits, excludes code not needed for web serving no AD/DNS, DHCP Since Windows Web Edition and Windows DataCenter will be key to partners transitioning to Windows 2008, let’s go over these offers to make sure we understand them well. Web hosters deploying Windows Standard/Enterprise on the front end today will be able to Windows Web Edition. Web edition is : PL only $10 per proc License restriction limits to front end server only Windows Web Enhanced use rights today include a 50 user limitation for biz Apps – that’s going away w/ 2008 Still be able to run biz apps, internal collaboration and portal software on the same server without limitation of # of users an any one time. Use Rights w/ 2003: 1. Restrictions on use: on front end web server to deploy Internet accessible web pages, sites, applications and services, and to server POP3 mail. You may run instances of the server software with the following types of software in the same physical or virtual op system environment on the licensed server: Web serving software, such as M IIS Management software or security agents such as MOM Agent Dbase engine software solely to support apps running in the same OS environ Biz apps such as CRM, ERP or internal collaboration and portal software (provided # of users of the app at any one time is less than 50) Internet facing portal and collab apps w/ no limit on # of users at any one time Bits for 2008 will be standard bits w/out code needed for web serving which is: AD=Active Directory DNS=Domain Name System DHCP=Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Microsoft Confidential

Windows Server Datacenter 2008 Anonymous Processor License 55 € SKU Unlimited Virtualization In virtual OS environments you can run Datacenter/Enterprise/Standard/Web edition Increased scalability and increased memory and clustering make it a great choice for service providers that were previously licensing Standard / Enterprise Anonymous Windows DataCenter will be the transition choice for non-front end servers. Only available as an anonymous Proc license. What defines anonymous today for Std/Ent will remain the same for DC (so there will still be some confusion/complexity over what constitutes “anonymous” but eliminating Anon w/ Std/Ent Is the first step in streamlining Windows licensing/skus in SPLA. What makes DC attractive is the ability to downgrade to Web/Standard/Enterprise. Because of this and the unltd virtualization, increased scalability and memory and clustering ability makes DC a great choice for SPLA partners that were previously licensing Std/Enterprise anonymous. Anything not clear on that before we move to the next bit change w/ Windows which is new Activation/keys? Microsoft Confidential

2003 Internet 21€ 21€ Windows Standard 2003 Anonymous Let’s finish up the “transition” topic w/ a visual of what the transition path looks like: They are running Std Anon 2003 today on both the front end and beyond. They are paying $18 per proc today ….. 21€ SQL Server or Propriatary App Windows Standard 2003 Anonymous

2008 Internet 12 € 55 € Windows Web Server 2008 With Windows Server 2008, they will run Web Edition on the front end which is $10 per proc And they can run DataCenter on the back end which is $50 per proc. If they would prefer to deploy Standard/Enterprise instead of DataCenter, they can do that, but they will need to report DataCenter and will need to use Stand/Ent in accordance with the DataCenter anonymous use rights (which means it can only be used for anonymous). Anything not clear on that before we move to the next bit change w/ Windows which is new Activation/keys? 55 € SQL Server or Propriatary App Windows DataCenter Anonymous

2 Windows Activation Options MAK Keys One time activation with Microsoft Predetermined number of activations Independent Activation: each machine connects/activates with Microsoft (online or phone) Proxy Activation: one central activation on behalf of multiple machines; one connection to Microsoft KMS Keys Activate in partner environment against host machine Must reactivate every 6 months All machines must be networked W/ Windows 2008, all customers will need to decide upon one of 2 activation processes they want to follow. MAK: “Multiple Activation Keys” Activate machines against Msft. 1x; once activated require no further communication w/ Msft. Con: Predetermined number of activations w/ 2 activation choices depending upon agreement type: shooting for 2K Independent Activation: each machine individually connects/activates with Microsoft (online or phone) Proxy Activation: one centralized activation required on behalf of multiple machines; one connection to Microsoft KMS: “Key Management System: - must reactivate every 6 months Activates machines against a customer hosts machine w/i their environment – not Microsoft All machines must be on corporate network *if don’t reactivate goes into reduced functionality mode – 1 hr at a time For VL customers, when they download via download center, they will be able to access info. about the 2 options to help them make the choice. Since SPLA doesn’t allow for downloads (yet!) things are going to be a little more complicated for us. When SPLA partners order media, and then contact activation center, they will be asked which key they want. If they say “I don’t know” the CSR will say, go back to Msft to understand the diff. We need to be proactive w/ collateral for SPLA parnters! Working with BG and activation team to put together necessary collateral, communication, training. Goal remains to get downloads for SPLA partners and this new process is bolstering that for us but backend system complexities are not making it easy. Already in place for Vista Technet: step by step guide Microsoft Confidential

Partner calls Activation Call Center to get key(s) Activation Process Partner calls Activation Call Center to get key(s) Must provide SPLA agreement number Advise MAK/KMS or both If they don’t specify will get KMS reactivate every 180 days & must be connected to network Keys are provided over the phone or via email One Key works for all WS08 products Phone numbers for Activation Call Centers: http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/resources/vol/volkeys_asp.mspx http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/resources/vol/numbers.mspx Microsoft Confidential
