The Adverb Adjectives modify (beschreiben, näher bestimmen) nouns and pronouns: Mr Jones is a careful driver. Why are you nervous before a test?

The Adverb Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives or other adverbs: Mr Jones drives carefully, especially at night. You are extremely nervous before a test, aren't you? The new actor played fairly well.

The Adverb Use an adjective (not an adverb) after certain verbs: to be; to become, grow, turn, get (= werden); to feel; to look (= aussehen); taste, smell; sound, seem

Use an Adjective! She is angry. Our new classmate is becoming more and more popular. The noise grew louder. He is growing fat. The milk will turn bad (sour) if you don't put it in the fridge. The grass is getting high. This volleyball feels hard.

Use an Adjective! Your test looks good. The apple-pie tastes delicious. This bread smells fresh. The old records sound terrible on my new record-player. Grandma seemed tired after the journey.

The formation of adverbs slow-ly, nice-ly, careful-ly, ... 'le' is dropped: probable - probably, simple - simply, possible - possibly, ... 'y' changes to 'i': happy - happily, angry – angrily, ... friendly - in a friendly way silly - in a silly way/stupidly
