Welcome to the High School! 9th grade English Enriched Commack High School Mrs. Christina Semple

The transition to High School Through the course we will place emphasis on: --organization --responsibility --problem solving --advocating for themselves

Daily Expectations Binder and pen is brought to class each day. Copy of Weekly Agenda is in binder. No surprises here! Posted on E-Board– accessing the next agenda is typically the weekend’s homework. Agenda books are brought to class to keep track of assignments. Major Writing assignments must be typed. Parent/Guardians will have to sign AND comment! Daily Expectations

Our curriculum: Of Mice and Men To Kill a Mockingbird The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet Grammar/Structure SAT level Vocabulary Study Foundations in Regents essay tasks Research Skills Further Oral Activity: Language Analysis 4 Quarters + Midterm + Final/6 = Course average NYS English Regents given in 11th grade Midterm: January Final Exam: June

Grading System 70% Formal Assessments Writing Assignments, Tests, Quizzes 30% Homework, Classwork, Participation Long term assignments may be handed in late with a points/per day loss penalty. However, daily homeworks will not be accepted late as they typically are incorporated into that day’s lesson. Please access the Open Grade Book on Parent Portal to keep track of student progress.

EXTRA HELP! Mrs. Semple: Lunch periods in the Yearbook/Newspaper office also known as “The Publishing Suite” Mrs. Semple is after school almost every day in the Publishing Suite. Students should make an appointment.

Helpful High School rules to know Please call Attendance when your child is absent for entire day. No cell phone use in class. Students must schedule makeups for tests and quizzes the day they return from absence. Please make contact with any extenuating circumstances!
