ADVANTAGES SOUTH NORTH More money $$$$$ More people More resources Factories/Industries Better/more transportation Anaconda Plan: Split the South in half – cut off their “air” supply (resources, supplies etc.) Skilled Generals – from West Point. Pride of homeland Knowledge of their terrain Defensive battle

Battle of Bull Run July 21, 1861 This will be basically the first battle. Confederate victory. Lincoln (Union) and the Confederates will realize that the war will not be quick or easy. People came to picnic while watching this battle.

Battle of Gettysburg July 1, 1863 - July 3, 1863 General Lee attacked Gettysburg as an attempt to cut off Washington, D.C. from the North. After the Union Victory, the South will never attack the North in the North’s territory. This battle is the turning point of the War.

BATTLE OF BENTONVILLE, N.C. March 19, 1865 – April 26, 1865 Union Victory *Bloodiest battle of N.C. *Largest troop surrender in the Civil War.
