TEACHER BELIEFS AND ATTITUDES ABOUT TEACHING

DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS. DO YOU AGREE WITH YOUR COLLEAGUES OR DISAGREE. IF YOU DISAGREE – STATE WHY.

Teachers usually stand in the front of the class when teaching

Teachers decide how fast the students should work on tasks.

Teachers make and ask the questions students answer

Teachers should praise correct answers from students.

Teachers follow lesson plans.

Teachers model and provide model answers.

Teachers discipline students.

Teachers use and operate the equipment and devices in class

Teachers reveal personal details about their lives to students.

The classroom is a noisy, busy place.

Learners are usually arranged in desks, in rows.

Learners make mistakes which teachers correct.

Learners compete to answer questions and for the teacher’s response.

Learners stand up when they answer or respond in class.

Learners use a textbook which guides the class.

Learners respect the teacher’s knowledge and experience.

Learners collaborate with each other to finish exercises, answer questions.

Learners do homework which the teacher corrects.

Learners reveal personal details about themselves in class.

Learners obey, the teacher orders and controls the class.

Look over your beliefs. Would you expect similar behavior in classrooms other than your own?

What factors might influence teachers and learners to be different?

MEANING? There is no play book underlying teaching practice. Only what happens in the classroom and how we respond to it. TEACHING IS AN ART!

MEANING? TRY YOUR BEST. PLAN, RELECT, IMPROVE. BE PROFESSIONAL. BE OPEN, KIND AND SHOW YOU CARE.
