Fairtrade Town & Parishes! The Calne Fairtrade Community Fairtrade CALNE Action Plan 2017/18 Five Goals towards a Fairtrade Town & Parishes! The Calne Fairtrade Community

Five Goals Goal 1: Local Council Support Goal 2: Fairtrade Products Available Goal 3: Local Organisations support Fairtrade Goal 4: Raise awareness through events & media coverage Goal 5: A Representative Steering Committee Population Basis: FTF Range 20-25K Population: Town 17,274 Parishes 4979 Total 22253

Goal 1 Local Councils pass resolutions supporting Fairtrade. The resolution should include a commitment to serve Fairtrade tea and coffee at its meetings and in its offices and canteens whenever hot drinks are served.  Town Council makes a Resolution Area Board makes a Resolution  Parish Councils make a similar resolution Update 5th Sept - Presentation made to the Parish Forum representing the 6 parishes. -Generally good response -Actions on them to take back requests for commitment & support to PCs (Goal 1 Resolutions) -They requested copies of presentation to Parish Clerks -Jane Vaughan requested logo -We asked for resolutions, contacts We await the minutes Measuring Success – Secure Resolutions from all Parishes

Goal 2 Fairtrade product ranges are readily available in the area’s shops and retail outlets: Retail Outlets Products 4 Outlets 5 Catering Outlets Products 2 Outlets 3 Measuring Success We need to start doing the Audits!

Goal 3 Fairtrade* products are used by an appropriate number of local work places: Offices, shops, B&Bs, Hotels (residents only) etc. Community organisations (Church faith communities - Target 50%). T&C 8 (target) of 15 53% Community organisations (Other faith communities - Representative %age). 0 of 0 NA Primary schools in your area - calculate the proportion of which are supporting Fairtrade. ? of 10 0% Secondary schools in your area - calculate the proportion of which are supporting Fairtrade. 1 of 4 25% Other Community organisations T&C 0 of 0 Measuring Success Audit churches we are associated with - Write to others about the campaign – follow up with audits Follow up on John Bentley Meeting – check progress Write to Schools now that new school term has started – suggest school self audits Presentation scheduled with Calne Rotary – Thursday 21st September

Goal 4 Attract media coverage and popular support for the campaign. Local Media – press releases, articles published, event coverage Photography – Our own at all meeting, events, etc. copies of published images Advertising - Our local advertising by us and those supporting us in the town and parishes Measuring Success Get campaign visible to everybody in Town & Parishes: Applied for funds from Calne Area Board for enduring advertising material (£800.00+) (Banners, Posters, Window/door decals, collapsible projection screen, more A1 advert boards) Await word from CAB about grant success or otherwise. Press release (if we get grant) about visual advertising Must get Town Council to allow prime long-term advertising spots in town and Parish noticeboards This Saturday – sharing “Our Place” stall in town to give out leaflets – promote campaign Presentation scheduled with Calne Rotary – Thursday 21st September Ramp up presentations – select targets

Goal 5 A local Steering Group is convened to ensure progress and continued commitment to the campaign. Council Representative(s)  Town Council (2 of 19) ? Parish Councils (1 of 44) – we have one – have asked Parish Forum for someone else! ? Area Board (0 of 5) – do we need this? – small committee with multiple hats  Campaigners (all of us) - OK ? People representing the area’s schools (? of 14) – Need to achieve teacher and pupil reps  People representing churches (at least 5 of 15) - OK  People representing businesses (1 of ?) – Need to find two or three more (Coop suggested) The group is responsible for an annual assessment to monitor whether the area is continuing to meet the five goals. The group organises special events for Fairtrade Fortnight in March each year. Group metrics - membership/meetings Measuring Success – see above

Budget & Finance Budget typically: Year 1/2 Banners, posters, supporting organisations window stickers, poster printing, other equipment/materials. Plus Fairtrade Fortnight 2018 Expenses Plus possible school prize funding Year2/3 - Calne Fairtrade signs – need to work with “Our Place” on this
