Panther II Hybrid Rocket Final Semester Overview Florida Institute of Technology January 14, 2008
What We’ve Accomplished Propulsion Conducted two static test fires of motor Obtained enough material to make several more fuel grains Airframe Conducted multiple fin calculations Ground Support Equipment Evaluated Launch Rail modification structural stability Payload Designed electronics board Ordered parts
Propulsion Goals Finalize Motor Specifications Conduct more static test fires Compare thrust curve to desired trajectory data Deliver final weight, dimensions, etc. to other subteams Oversee propulsion components (fuel grain, motor installation, etc.) for all firings
Airframe Goals Finalize Airframe specifications, including body length, fin size, etc. Order necessary parts Input airframe parameters into UCAT for trajectory analysis Construct airframe
Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Rail Modifications: Finish specifications Order metal Machine and construct rail Rocket support Obtain and familiarize with necessary tubing, electronics and other ground-based rocket equipment Oversee all GSE procedures during all launches
Payload Complete circuits Assemble payload Code all electronics Create “dummy” payload No electronics, but similar weight and dimensions to actual payload Used for Cape Launch Launch payload from Palm Bay
Launch Goals Develop Test Directive Detailed procedure and instructions for day of launch Finalize transportation and all other procedures necessary Continue discussion with SAIC Aiming for a mid-year launch, hopefully May!
