Name/Date of Event SHRM Speaker Name [Introductory comments: Thanks and acknowledgements, conference theme if applicable, special recognition of SHRM state council or chapter, etc.] I am glad to be here on behalf of SHRM. Today, I would like to talk about how SHRM is focused on building a better profession together. Name/Date of Event SHRM Speaker Name

HR PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY MISSION SHRM IS A GLOBALLY RECOGNIZED HR PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY THAT EXISTS TO DEVELOP AND SERVE THE HR PROFESSIONAL, AND ADVANCE AND LEAD THE HR PROFESSION. It starts with our mission. For nearly seven decades, SHRM has served hundreds of thousands of HR professionals and been a voice on behalf of the HR profession. Over that time, business has evolved. HR has evolved. SHRM has evolved. But we have never lost sight of the reason why we exist: To help HR professionals and the HR profession succeed and grow. Our mission is two-fold: To develop and serve you, the HR professional; and To advance and lead the HR profession. How do we do this?

SHRM STATE COUNCILS & CHAPTERS SHRM GLOBAL OFFICES & FORUMS HR COMMUNITY 285,000 MEMBERS Our mission is also to build and sustain HR community. Today that community includes: 285,000 members from more than 165 countries. Offices and global forums around the world; and   Partnerships with the SHRM Foundation, the Council for Global Immigration and HR People & Strategy, SHRM’s Executive Network. 575 affiliate chapters and state councils—our greatest strength and a network that has served state and local HR professionals, businesses and communities for more than 60 years. SHRM Online Community We have also been building a more robust online community, with more peer-to-peer content and opportunities to connect with other HR professionals on social platforms, such as SHRM Connect.   We believe the HR profession is strongest when we share our best practices and collective wisdom, and continue to raise the standards of our profession as a community. SHRM STATE COUNCILS & CHAPTERS SHRM GLOBAL OFFICES & FORUMS

EDUCATION THE NEW SHRM.ORG SHRM CONFERENCES SHRM SEMINARS, E-LEARNING & MORE First, SHRM does provides HR education. We understand the power of having the best available knowledge.    The New SHRM.org This is why we launched the new and improved SHRM.org. Our new website features: easier navigation and search; more personalization; and a mobile-friendly experience. SHRM.org is not just a website. It’s a place HR professionals go for the most trusted resources on human resources. Now, finding, sharing and engaging with those resources online is easier than ever before. SHRM Conferences SHRM also hosts a number of in-person learning opportunities. Our specialty conferences cover areas from employment law and legislation to talent management to diversity and inclusion. Each year, thousands of HR professionals also attend the biggest HR learning, sharing and developmental opportunity in the world: The SHRM Annual Conference and Exposition. SHRM17 will be in the Big Easy, New Orleans, and I hope to see many of you there. SHRM Seminars, eLearning and more There are many more ways SHRM works to provide the best in HR learning—from our in-person and virtual seminars to our brand new eLearning library. Whether you are looking for answers online or attending an event in person, our goal is to provide the best in HR education and ensure you have the information you need to succeed.

CERTIFICATION 96,000 The SHRM Competency Model is also the foundation of our competency-based certification, which is designed to help HR professionals exceed the higher expectations of HR in today’s economy.   Since launch last year, more than 96,000 HR professionals have achieved their SHRM-SCP or SHRM-CP. If you are one of them, it is never too early to start planning for recertification. Our new SHRM Certification app is making it easy to maintain your credential—including by tracking and logging your Professional Development Credits.

THOUGHT LEADERSHIP MORE CONTENT, PRODUCTS & SERVICES FOCUSED ON TALENT ACQUISITION SHRM COMPETENCY MODEL & MORE COMPETENCY-BASED EDUCATION Our mission is also to be thought leader for the HR profession. This means keeping a 30,000-feet view of the profession, its strengths and opportunities, and ensuring that HR is responsive to the needs of people and business today.  SHRM Focus on Talent Acquisition For many companies now, recruiting is the top challenge. SHRM research shows that 2 in every 3 HR professionals had difficulty filling a full-time job in the past year. To respond to this challenge, SHRM has increased our research, resources and events focused on talent acquisition. [Note Oct. 21 Las Vegas and Dec. 2 Phoenix Talent Symposia if appropriate.] SHRM Competency Model and More Competency-Based Offerings We are also focused on helping HR professionals develop the nine HR competencies of the SHRM Competency Model—the critical skills such as Leadership & Navigation, Business Acumen and Relationship Management that you need in addition to HR Expertise to succeed and impact your organization.   We have over 750 competency-based offerings to help you better understand the Model, and assess and develop your proficiency in each competency—or the proficiency of your HR staff. You can expect more throughout the year.

ADVOCACY PUBLIC POLICY INFLUENCE SHRM PRINCIPLES FOR CREATING A 21ST CENTURY WORKPLACE We are also most effective when we voice HR’s perspective on workplace issues together. This is why SHRM goes to lawmakers, policy makers, and regulators with HR's take on issues such as paid leave, healthcare, immigration and workplace flexibility.   These influencers also come to us. So far this year, Congress and federal agencies have reached out to SHRM nearly 80 times for input and guidance on workplace issues. This summer, SHRM released our three principles for Creating a 21st Century Workplace—policies that are Innovative, Fair and Competitive. SHRM was also the only HR organization represented at the U.S. political conventions this summer. We continue to advocate for those issues that matter most to HR professionals and the organizations you serve. You can be sure HR’s voice is heard in Washington, D.C. and beyond.

These are the ways SHRM is working every day to serve you and to advance the profession.   We believe that when you succeed, we succeed. And together, we build a better profession.
