Let Everything PRAISE THE LORD Psalm 150

Where to Praise Him “Hallelujah” In His sanctuary – a sanctified place where we find God - Jerusalem - The temple - Zion – where God meets with His people - Heaven – Psalm 15, 24:3-6 Acts 17:24-25

Where to Praise Him In His mighty firmament – the heavens - Creation declares His greatness – Romans 1:20, Psalm 19:1-6

Why Praise Him For His Mighty Acts – all that He has done. We have seen His mighty hand at work with (and against) Israel, individuals and other nations. Deuteronomy 3:24

Why Praise Him According to His excellent greatness – how much greater is He than we are? Such can cause us to humbly see our place before Him! Never forget the abundance of His goodness, etc.

How to Praise Him With instruments (3-5) – sound of the trumpet - with lute and harp - with timbrel - with dance - stringed instruments - with flutes - with cymbals, loud and clashing

Instruments in OT Worship That instruments were used is not disputed, BUT is it authority for today? Frequently mentioned in the psalms -33:2, 43:4, 68:25, 98:5-6, etc. Trumpets of the priests – Leviticus 23:24

Instruments in OT Worship When Israel crossed the Red Sea – Exodus 15:20,21 – Miriam and women danced with timbrel

Instruments in OT Worship David made them more prominent He used singers and instruments – 1 Chronicles 15:16 – when bringing the Ark into Jerusalem Notice: 1 Chronicles 15:2-3, 13-15 – 2nd time, it was done properly!

Instruments in OT Worship David made them more prominent 2 Chronicles 29:25-28 – Hezekiah restores worship, “according to the commandment of David,… for thus was the commandment of the LORD by His prophets” 1 Chronicles 16:42 – musical instruments of God 2 Chronicles 7:6 – with instruments of the music of the LORD, NOTE 7:3

Instruments in OT Worship Some suggest that God never commanded their us, but tolerated or allowed them Amos 6:5 – who sing idly on the sound of stringed instruments, and invent for yourselves musical instruments like David. The context (6:1-8) is addressing their ease in Zion. Pride and arrogance and being flippant about serving God. Can we be guilty of just going through the motions, or being heartless in our singing today?

Instruments in OT Worship DOES the authorized use of instruments in the Old Testament authorize them today? NO!!!!!!! We are not under the Old Law today – Colossians 2:13-17 Today God has spoken THROUGH HIS SON –Hebrews 1:1-2

Instruments in OT Worship DOES the authorized use of instruments in the Old Testament authorize them today? NO!!!!!!! Consider 2 NT passages that quote psalms Hebrews 2:12 – Psalm 22:22 Romans 15:8-9 – Psalm 18:49 Notice both NT quotes mention only singing. Why not chose one that mentions instruments?

Instruments in OT Worship DOES the authorized use of instruments in the Old Testament authorize them today? NO!!!!!!! Consider the intent of Old and New Laws The Old Law was “of the letter”, the New Law “of the Spirit” 2 Corinthians 3:3, 6

Instruments in OT Worship DOES the authorized use of instruments in the Old Testament authorize them today? NO!!!!!!! The LOM used many more externals – sacrifices, priesthood, incense, & instruments, etc. We use the heart in our singing Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16 1 Corinthians 14:15 We need to praise and worship God AS He instructs us! Today – He commands singing!

Let Everything Praise Him Our final statement All mankind – whoever has breath, praise Him! Philippians 2:10-11, Romans 14:11 – every knee WILL bow! All creation, by doing what it is supposed to do, praises Him

Let Everything PRAISE THE LORD Hallelujah! Let Everything PRAISE THE LORD
