The goal of an effective principal-counselor relationship is to use the strength of the relationship to collaboratively lead school reform efforts to increase achievement for all students. Important Elements for a Successful Principal-Counselor Relationship Communication – Opportunities for sharing information, contributing ideas, and providing input for student and schoolwide strategies related to improving student outcomes. Collaboration/Alignment – Shared participation and contribution in decision making and the development and implementation of student and schoolwide-strategies to improve student outcomes. Respect – An environment where the principal’s and counselor’s work and opinions are supported and valued.
