EYE SAFETY BY THE NUMBERS BE SAFE STAY SAFE + REVIEW FEBRUARY 2018 2,000 eye injuries occur EVERY DAY in the United States. 90 % of all eye injuries can be prevented by using proper PPE EYE SAFETY BY THE NUMBERS Wear your safety glasses No tinted safety glasses for general cleaning in an indoor environment Wear your safety goggles when filling any bottle or bucket with liquid (chemical) Wear eye PPE when using power tools Keep your eye protection clean Wear prescription lenses if you should Wear safety glasses with proper UV protection if working outside Report immediately if you have an eye accident Wear a face shield when working with water under pressure Review your site’s PPE requirements Finally…wear your safety glasses! Beyond PPE Don’t rub eyes with dirty hands or clothing. Will help prevent Flu too. Remove debris, dust and soils from head & eye PPE before removing. Know where your eye wash stations are located & how to use. Different PPE for different jobs Check your PPE site declaration, procedures or supervisor for the right eye PPE for each job task
