Collaborative Learning Platform

What is CLP? The Collaborative Learning Platform provides those key elements that are allowing educators across Texas to facilitate learning environments where students develop the soft skills needed for self-directed learning while responding to standards-based lessons. This platform includes the following soft skills: -Collaboration -Creativity -Critical Thinking -Communication

Our District’s Vision As one of the great teachers of Harlingen CISD, I have a desire for your student to be responsible for his or her own learning. This school year, I will create environments where your child will develop creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication needed for autonomy. These attributes are important for work readiness and college readiness. The Collaborative Learning Platform your student will see in this classroom this year will provide key elements for self-directed learning while continuing to enforce state standards-based learning.

The CLP Cycle This cycle is modeled to emulate a work environment Gives specific tasks to each part of the cycle Effortlessly incorporates the soft skills into content learning

What it Looks Like: Students work in groups Students will collaborate within teams to develop a product Roles are assigned to students to ensure all parts of the task are completed Focus is on collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication as well as content

Implementation within the Classroom Communication with parents on a weekly basis. Each student is aware of grades allowing parent contact directly Focus on the four Cs: Collaboration, Critical thinking, Communication, Creativity Specialized learning environment to support collaboration Ongoing teacher training in the Collaborative Learning Platform and/or Project Based Learning

How Will CLP Affect Your Child? -Creates consistency across all classrooms -Students develop Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Communication and Creativity skills for self-directed learning -Creates a seamless bridge from Cano Freshmen Academy to the comprehensive high schools -Optimizes rigor in the classroom -These “soft skills” are the same skills required for college readiness and employment in the workforce -Lessons will remain standards based, preparing students for rigorous state exams -Enhancement of communication and organizational skills
