Buckhead Christian ministry We envision a community free of hunger and homelessness

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” – Matt 18:10

Who are we? What do we do? Buckhead Christian Ministry (BCM) is an ecumenical social ministry of 30 churches that provides life-changing services for vulnerable families and individuals in various stages of poverty or homelessness in Atlanta, these services include emergency assistance, supportive housing, and financial education.

How are we doing? With a $2.2MM budget, across our three main programs, BCM provides emergency assistance for 8,000 individuals, supportive housing for 30 individuals, and financial education for 60 individuals each year. BCM’s average price to serve an individual is $300.

allocations – fy2018

Income – fy2018 ($2.23MM)

What is our role? As a Christian ministry, BCM is obliged to feed, clothe, house, and improve conditions for the poor among us. With more than 30 years of professional case management experience and proven programs, we are a leader in the fight to end hunger and homelessness in Atlanta.

What is The Need? 40% of US households cannot pay the bills The city of Atlanta has a 22.5% poverty rate, which amounts to more than 100K people Atlanta is the 4th neediest city in America, behind Detroit, Brownsville, TX, and Memphis On any given night, the city hosts 1,800 individuals in emergency shelters and 1,500 individuals in transitional housing, while allowing 900 individuals to go unsheltered Metro Atlanta’s high-poverty neighborhoods ballooned from 102 in 2000 to 304 in 2015 Metro Atlanta’s homeless population includes 3,400 homeless youths https://www.debt.com/americas-voice-on-debt/40-percent-americans-cant-pay-bills/ https://datausa.io/profile/geo/atlanta-ga/ http://www.ajc.com/news/local/high-homeless-population-makes-atlanta-one-the-neediest-cities-america/xXqisEyBSH6oVSRr8nHdmN/ https://partnersforhome.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Partners-for-HOME-Brochure_R2-final-final-final.pdf https://atlanta.curbed.com/2017/7/14/15968602/atlanta-poverty-suburban-increasing-fastest-suburbs-harvard-study http://news.gsu.edu/2016/05/03/more-than-3300-youth-are-homeless-in-atlanta-area-project-by-georgia-state-and-partners-finds/

What More Can We DO In 10 years, BCM will increase program services by a factor of 10. Annually, BCM will provide: Emergency Assistance for 80% of Atlanta’s poor Housing for 300 working homeless individuals and their children Financial Freedom for 600 Atlanta residents

How are we going to do it? Increasing individual, foundation, and corporate giving 10-fold Create a robust planned giving program Increase church giving and the number of churches in the ministry by 10-fold Once again bid on favorable government grants Create successful social businesses that monetize our mission and drive revenues into programs

Projects needing funding Double our Foundation 3 program (1. housing, 2. education, 3. employment) from 12 families to 24: $350K Renovate basement to accommodate higher service capacity: $300K Fund a full time Church Support Manager to handle all benevolence casework coming from ministry partner churches for three years: $240K Fund a full time corporate relations person to build sustainable funding partnerships with regional companies who care about our mission for two years: $200K – do you know a candidate? Disrupt 100 evictions for families in our community: $100K

Ministry Highlights Over 10 years, 300+ financial education program participants retired $700K in debt and are now on a balanced budget At any given time, BCM hosts 12 formerly homeless working families from our community in safe supportive housing Every day, BCM disrupts 4 evictions in our community by providing emergency financial assistance to neighbors in crisis BCM gives out $200K in clothes and 15-20K bags of groceries every year
