Figure 1 Pattern Recognition Receptors Major classes of mammalian pattern recognition receptors and some of their representative microbial ligands are shown. Secreted pattern recognition molecules activate complement and function as opsonins. Transmembrane and intracellular receptors trigger signaling pathways for innate host defense and activate adaptive immune responses. Mechanisms of inflammasome activation are still being defined.
