Housed in the old village primary school, Burwardsley centre caters for up to 40 children and 6 staff. For the majority of the time, it is used by primary school children ranging from Year 1 to 6 who stay either 1 or 2 nights. There are 2 nature ponds in the grounds, an adventure playground, a large grassed playing field and a tarmac play area. Attached to the building there are 3 different classroom areas allowing children to study independently on the same visit.

Catering At Burwardsley they aim to provide a healthy and balanced menu. Breakfast A selection of cereals, juice and yoghurts are in the dining room for you to help yourselves to, followed by a hot option served at 8.15am. Lunch Lunch is sandwiches, crisps, fruit or yoghurt and a hot option which is served at 12.30pm or a packed lunch which you can take out. Evening Meal The main meal is a 2 course meal with 2 options usually served at 4.45 pm. Snacks Tea, coffee, squash, milk, hot chocolate, biscuits and toast are available at all times from the dining room. Special Diets They have a wealth of experience in providing meals for all sorts of allergies and intolerances from mild to serious conditions. They have asked for dietary requirements on the booking forms but are also very happy to discuss any special needs with parents or schools and organise a pre-visit meeting if necessary.

Activities Day 1 – Leave school approx. 9.15am. Arrive at Burwardsley. Health and safety talk. Unpack. Adventure playground. Eat packed lunches. Den building in the forest. Evening meal. Treasure hunt. Supper. Day 2 – Breakfast. Walk up Bulkeley Hill – habitat hunt. Picnic lunch. Evening meal. Camp fire. Supper. Day 3 – Breakfast. Pack. Pond-dipping. Orienteering. Adventure playground. Picnic lunch. Return to school for 3.30pm.

Kit list essentials PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING!! waterproof coat and trousers waterproof rucksack (use a plastic bag inside to make it waterproof) wellies Warm coat Sturdy shoes/trainers for walking 3/4 t-shirts/long sleeves tops 2/3 jumpers/sweaters 2/3 pairs trousers (doesn’t matter if are jeans) Hat, scarf, gloves/sun cream and sun hat! Underwear and socks for 2 days Nightwear Indoor shoes/slippers Wash kit and towel Book or small, quiet toy or game (no electric ones please) Teddy bear Plastic bag for dirty clothes Camera (optional – child must be responsible for it at all times) Medication (if necessary) – Child’s name and completed form handed to staff on the day Torch Water bottle Packed lunch (either from school or home for the first day) PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING!!
