Registration Higley High School 2017-18

Higley High Graduation Requirements 3 credits

AZ University Admissions Requirements (ASU, UA, NAU) You will be offered admission if you have a 3.0 or higher core GPA*, rank in the top quarter (25%), and have no deficiencies in the required college preparatory courses.   You will be considered for admission if you have a 2.5 core GPA*, rank in the second quarter (26-50%), and have no more than one deficiency in any two areas in the college preparatory courses. *GPA is based on a 4.0 (unweighted) scale and is calculated using only the 16 core courses required. Academic Competency Requirements A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for each subject area. Deficiencies cannot be in the same core subject area or a combination of Math and Lab Science. In some cases, ACT or SAT scores may be used to satisfy competencies. Some university programs may require additional information and/or admission requirements as noted on their individual requirements pages. Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) Policy 2/121: http://admissions.arizona.edu/how-to-apply/abor-course-competencies  Top 25% in high school graduating class 3.00 GPA in competency courses (4.00 = "A") ACT 22 SAT Taken prior to May 2016: 1040 Taken after April 2016: 1120 *The writing portion of these tests is not required

Course Selection Considerations Current 9th Graders* Current 10th Graders Current 11th Graders Required core classes: English 10 English 11 English 12 Math Math* Science US Govt/Economics World History & Geography American/Arizona History On target: 6 credits earned On target: 12 credits earned On target: 18 credits earned Seminary students need to take A hour if the credit is needed to meet graduation requirements. Seniors must be enrolled in 4 credit-bearing classes. *It is strongly recommended that students take math during their senior year. Juniors/Seniors attending EVIT must take classes A hour through 3rd hour to account for core credit. EVIT will take up 4th hour through 6th hour.

AP/Honors/Dual Enrollment Courses Exceed state content standards and expectations Often requires summer work, rigorous testing, individual/ group projects, presentations, and a higher expectation for classroom participation and discussion Highly recommended to take an accelerated, Pre-AP or Honors course prior to taking an AP course, although not required Recommended that a grade of C or better is earned in the pre-requisite course Not recommended if a student struggles in a traditional course Requirement: Students are required to complete a High School Academic Agreement to enroll in AP, Honors and/or Dual Enrollment courses. Agreements will be available in the Counseling Office AP/Honors Night – Tuesday, January 24th at 5:00 p.m. in the HCPA Top 25% in high school graduating class 3.00 GPA in competency courses (4.00 = "A") ACT 22 SAT Taken prior to May 2016: 1040 Taken after April 2016: 1120 *The writing portion of these tests is not required

Online Course Requests Students: January 23 – February 2 Course requests open for students in StudentVUE Parents/Guardians: February 3 – 12 Parents/Guardians are required to review and lock courses in ParentVUE Click the “Lock Course Requests” button to lock courses This will serve as your parent/guardian electronic signature February 6 – 7 (5:00-7:00 p.m.) Parent registration nights at Sossaman Middle School for parents/guardians who need access to a computer and/or assistance with online course requests Notes: Once your course requests are locked by your parent/guardian, you will not be able to make further changes. Do not use the StudentVUE and ParentVUE app to select courses. February 13-17: Counselors will meet with students during Science classes to review and lock course requests

Sign into StudentVUE

Click on the tab that says “Course Request”

1) Selected Course Requests will show courses already selected, as well as courses that may have been locked in by the student’s counselor. 2) Alternate Elective Requests will show any alternate electives that have been requested. 3) Graduation Status Summary will allow you to see the number of credits required, completed, in progress and remaining.

To ADD or DELETE courses, select the button that says “Click here to change course requests”.

DO NOT SEARCH BY COURSE TITLE OR BY DEPARTMENT! Locate the Course ID numbers in the course guide Enter the first few letters of the Course ID number Click “Search Courses”

Mark the dot for “Request” and then click “Click here to move selected requests to Selected Course Requests”

Your 1st choice elective request is now in “Selected Course Requests” *Reminder: if your 1st choice has two course IDs i.e PE, you must enter both codes.

Two Semester Long Courses have two codes. 101 – odd number – Fall Semester 102 – even number – spring semester.

Choose three additional electives as “Alternate Elective Requests” Enter the course ID and click “Search Courses”

Mark the dot “Alternate” and click on “Click here to move selected requests to Selected Course Requests” *Repeat to add additional alternate elective requests

All of your elective requests are now entered. Click on “Click here to return to course request summary”

You should now have your first and second choice under “Selected Course Requests” and your third, fourth and fifth choice under “Alternate Elective Requests”.

*Once you have locked your course requests When you and your parent/guardian are completely satisfied with your choices, your parent will sign into parentVUE and click on “Lock Course Requests” *Once you have locked your course requests you will NOT be able to make further changes.

Remember… Review courses in the 2017-18 High School Course Guide at www.husd.org. Review your course history and complete a credit check worksheet to help you make your course selections. Make careful decisions because these are the classes you will be enrolled in for next school year. Class selection is not a guarantee of placement in that class. Enroll in 7 courses (14 semesters) if you want to take A hour. You must provide your own transportation for A hour Enroll in 6 courses (12 semesters) if you do not want to take A hour. Select 3 alternate elective courses (6 semesters). If electives are not selected, school officials will select your courses for you. Use a computer to request your courses through StudentVUE. The StudentVUE and ParentVUE app will not work for course selection. For courses requiring an audition, teacher recommendation, or application, register for the beginning level course.
