The Internet The Internet is a network of computers from all over the world. How does your computer join this network?

Types of Internet Connections There are different ways to connect to the Internet. Dial Up Cable DSL Satellite Wi-Fi

World Wide Web The World Wide Web, or Web, is the part of the internet that has documents called web pages Each page is called a website. You can find information about almost any subject you can imagine.

Toolbar Toolbars- Internet explorer has a special toolbar for using the internet. Address Bar -On this bar you can see the address of the website you want to visit. Scroll Bar- this bar lets you move to other parts of your page you cannot see. Status Bar- this bar shows you where you are on the Internet and your progress to where you are going.

Search engines use automated software programs knows as spiders or bots to survey the Web and build their databases. Web documents are retrieved by these programs and analyzed. Data collected from each web page are then added to the search engine index. When you enter a query at a search engine site, your input is checked against the search engine's index of all the web pages it has analyzed. Search Engines
