Importing and Editing Images Starter Import clip art, import from a digital source, import from file, import from website In the back of your books put today’s date and the title: 29 April 2013 Importing and Editing Images Think of 4 different sources from where you could get an image to use in a piece of work…

Lesson Objectives By the end of the lesson you will: Be able to import images from a range of sources Be able to edit images using a range of skills

Different sources include… Clipart Camera Internet Scanner

Task 1 Your teacher will now demonstrate how to use each of these. On your sheet add labels to show where each of the editing tools can be found on the Picture Tools bar. Add some brief notes as needed for YOU to remember what each of the following are used for. Crop Resize Flip & Rotate Set Transparency Brightness Maintaining Aspect Ratio Stick the sheet in your book…

Task 2 – Text Wrapping Using the Task 2 worksheet experiment with different text wrapping options: In line Square Tight Behind Text In front of text You have 2 minutes to complete this…

Text Wrapping – most common… Write down the following into your books: The In line option treats the graphic as a text character within a line of text. It will move with the text surrounding it if new text is inserted or deleted. The Square option makes the text wrap (flow) around the graphic. The Tight style works in the same way as square but you can’t control the distance of text from the image for the top or bottom but you can for left and right. The Behind text style results in the graphic floating on its own layer behind the text. This is useful for backgrounds. The In front of text style results in the graphic floating on its own layer in front of the text.

Task 3 Using the Task 3 – Instructions worksheet complete the tasks. You will need to open the Task 3 – Arthur Terry Quirky News document too as this is the file you will be editing. There is a completed example document for you to look at if you get stuck… Hint: You will need to import the images from the folder in the shared area…

Advanced Image Manipulation So far we have looked at some basic image manipulation techniques. Software like Photoshop lets you use advanced options. Have a look at some advanced image manipulation using the video in the shared area or using the link below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYhCn0jf46U

Before and After

Plenary – Hands Up! How do you remove a white background from an image? How do you lighten an image? How do you place an image behind text? What is the difference between tight and square text wrapping? What does aspect ratio mean?
