Classwide Intervention

Classwide Intervention An intervention provided to all students in a grade level. Used when less than 60% of students in a grade level are on-track. Or, put another way, when 40% or more of students are at-risk.

Classwide Data 16% 41% 43% 7% 8% 85% VS

Classwide Intervention Is… Is Not… Provided to all students In addition to instruction on core standards Targeted to specific skills that should have been previously learned Highly engaging (e.g. everyone does everything) Differentiation Differentiation is used to teach core standards Provided to only some students A Tier 2 intervention

Some Classwide Interventions KU Learning Strategies Sentence Writing Paragraph Writing Inference Paraphrasing and Summarization Math PALS Classwide Peer tutoring Literacy PALS Re-telling PRESS Six-Minute Solutions Behavior Good Behavior Game Self-Monitoring 2 X 10 behavior

Example: MS Reading

Universal Screening Data Universal Screening Data indicated 44% of students were below targets in 6th – 8th grade. 6th grade – 38% 7th grade – 45% 8th grade – 43% Building leadership team decided that all grades should participate in a classwide intervention focused on fluency. In addition, students who were less than 95% accurate were also provided additional intervention in decoding skills.

Intervention Description Support for Teachers Teachers choose content text each day. Teachers choose either Duet reading, Echo reading, or Partner reading each day. Frequency: Every day (6 classes per day) Duration: 5 minutes per class (30 min./day) During PLCs, instructional coaches taught teachers each of the interventions. Instructional coaches modeled interventions. Volunteer teachers were recorded doing each intervention. Videos were shared via PLCs.

What you may hear…

Classwide Intervention We see all students make gains on skills taught during classwide intervention. Some students’ time will be wasted.

Classwide Intervention Did you select relevant and interesting material? Can you differentiate within the intervention? Are teacher-student relationships strong? What about peer support for school? Some students say it’s boring

Classwide Intervention You should do that, too! Students in Grade X today need to be supported, too. Why don’t we just improve Tier 1?

What are your three takeaways from today? https://www.polleverywhere.com/free_text_polls/PUH3f8KzD5qMrss
