Developing Leaders… One Youth at a Time! Silver Spring (MD) Alumni Chapter Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. National Guide Right Service Program

What is Kappa League? National initiative of the Guide Right Program of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Kappa League is a year-round mentorship organization geared toward high-performing, under-represented young men in grades 9-12. Primary focus is on helping young men achieve worthy goals and make constructive contributions to their communities Members are students within the Montgomery County Public School District, and surrounding districts.

Kappa League Structure Members meet regularly each month Through club oriented activities officers, members, and mentors participate in projects that expose them to: Planning, execution, reporting ideas, and simulating good leadership characteristics through workshops and projects designed to raise aspiration levels.

Phases of Program include: Keys to Success To honor the vision of the Guide Right initiative, programming is derived from five major categories. These categories are taught via curricula lessons, field trips, workshops, mentor dialogues, and guest presentations. Phases of Program include: Self Identity Training Competition Social Health Education

Phase I: Self Identity Empowerment is the first phase of this program Phase I: Self Identity Empowerment is the first phase of this program. Developing a true sense of self is important in the process of developing leadership skills. Workshop topics will address: Discipline Assurance Awareness Appearance

Phase IV: Social Religion The arts Entertainment Communication Etiquette/Manners Personal development is a major proponent of Kappa League objectives. Through workshops, community integration projects, and curriculum Kappa League members are given experiences which help develop: Academic Growth Interview skills Etiquette Community service Spiritual growth Cultural Awareness

Phase V: Health Education Speakers and Mentors present on the following topics: Physical Fitness Sex Education Drugs Health and Safety

Diamonds in the Rough Kappa Leaguers Achievers Scholastic Excellence (K.A.S.E) All kappa leaguers will have the opportunity to take online SAT and ACT prep courses, math enrichment, intensive career prep. Development as access to the largest college and scholarship search and application database in the country.

Who Qualifies for Membership? Interested Applicants MUST BE: -A High School Minority Male Freshman or Sophomore with a 2.0 g.p.a or higher A Junior or Senior with a 2.5 g.p.a or higher 8th grade students are accepted upon approval Other Qualifiers may include: Shows academic promise Interested in postsecondary education/career advancement Has leadership potential Seeking mentorship/guidance

Membership Recruitment Attend a minimum of 2 Kappa League functions Completed Application ( written or typed) Transcripts/Interim Reports 2 Recommendation Letters Interview with passing score Written Exam with passing score Induction into Kappa League Dues
