Computing Resources Software for all classes Student (Web-Based) Labs for class meetings and homework time Printers, scanners, CD burners, etc. Secure file storage Class support materials WebCt Textbook materials WebAdvisor online information and registration

Set Up Your Network Account Needed to use a computer in FLCC Labs or to connect to wireless internet access on campus. Allocates your file storage on a LAN server Storage quota depends on the classes you are taking. Minimum 20 MB. Files available only on campus. Copy or files for use at home. Needed to use laser printers, files on local servers, or other network resources.

The Newuser Process to set up your network account Logon as newuser (all one word) leave the password line totally blank on the STUDENT domain You must have your Student ID number to enter when the program asks. After agreeing to follow the computing policies, you can pick up your password by showing photo ID to the staff in B388 (the Computer Helpdesk) or the office in Geneva or Newark.

Get Your WebAdvisor Password after youve set up your student Go to webadvisor.flcc.edu in Internet Explorerwebadvisor.flcc.edu Pick Guest Access, then Whats My Password Im New - Set Up My Password A temporary password will be sent to your student . Close WebAdvisor and read your to get the password to use. You must change this password the next time you logon to WebAdvisor. It will tell you your password has expired.

Passwords and More Passwords Passwords should contain only letters and digits, NO spaces, punctuation, or special characters. They should have at least one letter and at least one digit, and should be at least 6 characters long. They should be difficult to guess, but easy to remember. A good password protects your privacy, your information, and your stored files. Always log out before you leave.

Computer logon (LAN account) password is assigned when you get your account. Must be at least 6 characters long Student password is whatever password you provide when you get it. WebAdvisor password is whatever new password you provide after your first logon. Must be 6-9 characters long, letters and digits. You can provide a password hint. Ordinarily, your username cannot be changed. It is the identifier the system uses for you. You can always change it

Other Passwords at FLCC WebCt password to use course materials in a WebCt class. SLN password for an online course from SUNY Learning Network. SAM or MyItLab password for course materials from Course Technology texts (or others). etc. etc. --- Ask in B388 for help.

Computing at Home We use only Microsoft Word. If you use Ms Works, or Word Perfect, or anything else, you must save your file at home to a Word compatible format (. rtf file) if you want to open it here. If your class uses specific software, you can save a lot of money by working here, instead of buying the software for your home computer.

Transporting Data Try to avoid using diskettes. Store files on your U: drive for safety. Copy to a USB drive for file transport, or to a CD to archive many files. You can transport a file by ing it to yourself, but be sure to empty your inbox, sent items, and trash often. Never keep your only copy of anything important on removable media.

Wireless Access For internet browsing using your own wireless laptop. Read your Do research on the World Wide Web Use web-based course materials You must provide your username and password before you can reach a website.
